FYI

I remember when the Midwest was mecca for brass and woodwinds. It migrated south and finally out of country. First to Mexico and then China. It's coming back tho. I shamelessly plug this guy for rebuilds and I believe that eventually he will be building brass from scratch. He has passion and most of the tools.

He has rebuilt 3 instruments for me this year and deserves not only my kudos but more business. After my last was done I encouraged him to raise his rate. Yes! I'm a prick that way. I waited until all my instruments were done.

He's from South Korea and his new home is Renton, WA. There is a slight language barrier and he prefers being touched via Facebook.

Just sayin'. This kid is good!

I couldn't find harmonicas on there website but did find an interesting history.

They bought William S. Haynes Company, flute maker to Jean-Pierre Rampal, 10 years ago and it is still in Boston making flutes.

Thanks for the link to Chan Sun You. My sister lives in Renton so I get up there occasionally. My son has a 1928 Buscher Alto Sax that would probably benefit from a refurb soon.

@STME
I also have a sister in Renton. If things hadn't worked out as well as they did with Tom she would have picketed his place. I get up there on occasion. She's my favorite activist and a big maker and consumer of Seattle music. Lemme know how you make out with 'Tom'.

On the brass front I happen to live near Elkhart, Indiana which was once a thriving area of musical instrument production as noted above.

My son plays trumpet in high school band and I bought him two trumpets from EK Blessing in Elkhart. They have an outlet store at the factory where we go and he can try out anything they have on hand. We also get toured around the factory if the crew is working. Last time in we saw the cryo treatment set up. Very cool! (sorry couldn't resist) I have gotten great deals and service from them.

If anyone is on there way through contact Brendon at EK Blessing and he will be happy to show you some horns.

Cheers,
Jerry

What an Easttop harmonica might look like...

(Actually, pretty nice looking harp. First I'd ever heard of them.)
