My God, my god - it don't get any better then that, for 400...I think you found your masterpiece! Endless ideas and spurts of mischievous spontaneity - interlaced with blazing runs that cascade into smooth flowing river bends. That really captured the full blown talent you have boiling inside ted, Thank you :)

Fantastic! The man can play! Anytime I feel like I'm not relaxing enough I go to one of Ted's videos. Loose as a goose!

cool.

However, never could understand the compulsion for many to play lotsa fast notes (many not rooted to the beat) in a slow blues.

Would like to hear your talent (take 2) with long lines, less notes, more emotion, etc., telling a story.

I understand not everyone likes fast playing. Maybe this is more to your liking.

Maybe its the back ground track that moves you into busy territory, as it is busy, too.

This is what I like in slow blues...telling a story, making each note count, etc.

Jerry Portnoy is a righteous gifted musician and he tells his tale in song with the materials and influences he's assimilated over a long and creative career. Portnoy was an influence on my playing, believe it or not, and I'm grateful for having had the chance to see him live. His is the sort of story you want to hear on the harmonica, as do I. I am not Jerry Portnoy, however, and my stories are the ones I've earned the right to tell in a style that it is not a "compulsion" but rather a natural expression of my musical approach. My solo for Frank has pacing, phrasing, a varying of line lengths, spaces when they are needed, and , yes, emotion. It is my way of telling you a story that words cannot get to the heart of. The feeling, the emotion is there; I felt when I played it, I still feel it when I listen to it over again. I'm sorry you cannot hear what I do in what I play. But hey, you cannot please everyone. What I do know is that there a millions of stories to tell, millions of story tellers to convey them, and paths of a million shapes, turns, twists and forks and dead ends in order to get to the satisfying conclusion that we all, in our individual ways , desire. Jerry Portnoy is a blues harmonica master and someone I consider an influence; the point of having influences is to use them as a sign post to where you want to go in order to become your own person, with a style uniquely your own. In that regard, no one else quite sounds like I do. You may think that is nothing to brag about if you don't like the way I play, but so be it. The point is what I play is honest music.

Ooh. I never said I didn't like the way you play.

You may prepare a great dinner of grilled chicken for me. I like chicken ok, but really love ribs, so may ask you to take that same talent you put into the chicken and apply it to some ribs.

Hey Iceman, good morning.

I understand what you mean by less notes and more soul. I don't think the Portnoy clip is a good example of what you mean.
Basically Portnoy is doing a version of several Little Walter Tunes that are missing the plate reverb of Chess Studios.

Jerrys' tone is too edgy for my taste, and I've never been chicken skinned over his music emotionally.

I'm a big fan of his SNAKESKIN STRUT from the LEGENDARY BLUES BANDs first LP. Cool tune! It's a shuffle work out on the flat 3rd flat flat 7th and back again with a small amount of notes but every note means something.

Over all JPs tone is too midrange edgy for me. His jazz forays suffer because he is playing w/ that same damn tone making MOOD ROOM unlistenable even though produced by no less than Duke Robbillard.

What Theo does is honest music. Theo, I think you should back off on the reverb/delay? Also find a smoother sounding mic. That very early Musselwhite edginess takes away from the beauty you express. I play a lot like you in that I play a lot of notes. I'm still trying to play less. I've been trying for four decades. :-)

Ted, lemme decipher this coded message from Larry:)

He wants to be overcome by your music with an emotion so powerful... it will be as if he were sucking the rib sauce you made off each of his individual fingers, thumb included - while no one was watching :)

If that don't make believers outta the brokenhearted - it must be a cold day in paradise...You had your game face on there Ted and did not disappoint. Maybe I'm easy to please, but that my friend, is the one to beat :)
