Is it possible that a conversation on this forum, a conversation that hasn't broken any of the rules, could be deleted without notice? Just wondering.

The spamfilter is reeeaaaally weird. That is my first, second and third suspect... Hypothetically, of course.

No way, the last thing these guys want to do is censor anyone. You can pretty much get away with being yourself here.

Threads and posts do vanish from time to time but I think Pistolcat is right to blame the spamfilter.

Ha..
Military aviators call that "PROPAGATION PROBLEMS"
Those unexplained reasons that a radio transmission doesn't go through or whatever.. That's probably the case..

But hey.. IF Adam or anyone else that is ADMIN wants to CENSOR this forum, that is their undeniable right. They provide the forum and the format and they can delete anything they want.. and its ok by me...

I have had posts disappear then reappear later. Admin does a good job getting them back up after the spam filter pulls the posts...BN

Justfuya, it's the spam filter. The only posts I ever delete are spam posts, and because we hand approve applications, I haven't seen one of those in months, and on one occasion I deleted a bunch of posts on the Practice Your Forum Skills thread because the HTML rules had changed and old posts were causing glitches. I let the member involved know. (He was a former moderator). I think Adam and Todd operate under pretty much the same m.o.

If there is a post that violates the forum creed we will post in the thread and/or email the violator. We lock threads occasionally- I think 2 or 3 so far this year, but we give an explanation why at the time. People can still read locked threads, just not add to them. Occasionally we will delete a thread at the request of the original poster if no one else has commented in it (for instance, in the case of accidental double posting).

As for posts that the spam filter gets, I go to the folder and restore them every day (including sometimes restoring multiple copies; I'd prefer to let you decide which version of a message you want to delete). The spam filter is baked into the forum software. If it was up to us, we'd turn that feature off.

Usually, this system, spam filter aside, works pretty well. Personally, on the topic of censorship, while I believe that it's okay for a privately run forum to monitor what it allows to be put up, but I believe that if you aren't honest and upfront about it it distorts the message of the site. Even when I just fix the HTML in someone's post I leave an 'edited by' tag.

:)

@just
You could get banned like the late great Buddha.
Or you could a reprimand.
I guy asked once how can I sound better and
I said "stop playing". Some people got a little mad at
me.

i had a post censored.
it was a well crafted and articulate response to someone who
had it coming, it was highly entertaining and brutally honest.
the person who censored my post, used a much stronger retort
and his post was not deleted.
he who has the gold, makes the rules. lol

There is no censorship here. There are just well-intentioned, overworked people, a few of us, who try to keep the peace. Sigh. In case you hadn't noticed, folks, harmonica players are crazy.

I've had several innocuous posts snapped up by the spam filter. Luckily, I had admin privileges and could step into the back office and rectify the error.

I notice this happening, but doubt if there is any disrespect intended.
Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

I think the spam filter has me on its watch list. It has banned me for accessing MBH from my home network.
The spam filter has been taking out about 1/4 to 1/2 of my posts lately. Sometimes they get restored(thanks Nate!) and sometimes not. I don't think my posts have ever been offensive in any way, boring perhaps, but not offensive. Perhaps that is really what you want in a filter, take out what is boring and leave in what is offensive, that would keep the readership listening!

I recently read that censorship of the American people was the big accomplishment of the current political party in power...Thank God this great and Nobel site has not been hoodwinked into their ideology :)

Frank, comrade, I assure you we espouse no political philosophy.

Except, unless you mean my plan to confiscate the harmonicas from the rich and redistribute them to the poor, because I assure you, that day is coming. All hail the glorious revolution! muhahaha?

You see? I tried to warn you all.
Incrementalism. We are all just boiling frogs.

I, for one don't want any trouble. I'm just here to get along. Thank you, Nate. We are all very lucky that Dear Beloved Leader chose you.

Let me know if you wish for me to rat anyone out.

When Frank referred to the current political party in power, I don't think he was referring to those puppets we elect, but rather the power that pulls the strings, ie. Nate!

Yes indeed I had a couple or one post censored once, which expressed amusement at another post which was also censored. Of course when that amusement-generating post was removed by the censor, mine no longer referred to anything, so it made sense to remove it. I guess.
I guess that means you are on a warning 1847. How long does a violation warning stay current anyway? Is it a lifetime? Or do you go into the next match with a clean sheet?

I was just wondering. I went OT on a commercial and it turned into a conversation. My computer wasn't hooked up to my new USB breathalyser at the time. I would have deleted it myself but for the response. I can be foolish but I would never pull the rug when someone is standing on it. The conversation was surgically excised. I'm pleased with the result [deleted] but I question the science. It was a busy thread and somebody pulled strings. This is not a complaint. Just an observation.

Buz, you have, I believe, manifested irony in one of your recent posts above. This is a bad idea. I have manifested irony several times in this forum and it heats the frogs up. Shame on you. You are such a bad boy. It is better, oh so much better, to just say what you f&$^@!ing go-d-mn mean.

Censoring other peoples personal reality only leaves us with an unrealistic understanding of who a person actually is...

Its important to let people reveal totally who they are so we know with whom we are dealing with...

It would be refreshing if no one had to self censor themselves and were encouraged to let their thoughts come out naturally.

Sterling is a perfect example - wouldn't you rather know who are truly conversing with? :)

The spam filter is honing in on me and may soon remove me from the forum. It first got a lock on my home connection and for that last month or so I have not been able to post from home. Now it has found and locked me out of my work connection. I am posting this from a Starbucks. Eventually I expect it will find all of the public Wi-Fi sites and lock me out of those also. I will check back in nest time I get to a public wi-fi site. If you don't hear from me again, the spam filter has successfully hunted me down and eliminated me from the site. Not only can I not post, I can not even access the site from work or home. I don't even know what my crime against the spam filter is!

You need to out smart it...find and feed the 10% of data not revealed below into it's memory banks and you will at least for a time, stagger it's abilities to continue the assault it has raised up against you :)
