Does anyone have any ideas for what kind of an airtight mic holder could be built to hold both a diatonic and a chromatic in a rack to get the same sound as being cupped with as little weight as possible?

This is a pretty poor quality video I made a few years ago--but it might give you some ideas. . .

Some of the best I've heard was done with wild home made set up...basic neck rack, large mic (don't know which brand) covered in duct tape and attached to rack.

Paul Oscher had it.

Deak Harp is another example. Foam pipe insulation and tape around a nice CM element wired to a short lead with 1/4" female connector (I made that bit for him) which is cable-tied to the rack for strain relief. Then he either plugs in a guitar cable or his wireless transmitter using an adaptor I made for him.

In addition to Oldwailer's solution, I don't remember the name of it, but there is a holder that kind of looks like a vacuum attachment. You attach it to the mic stand. It's even got a rotating piece so you can set it for acoustic or cupped.

I did a Google image search to see if I could find it. I found a few other solutions, but couldn't find that one.

Looks like there are some leather solutions. Walter Torre also had a pretty good setup, I think. You might be able to find that in the forum archives.

The "Vacuum attachment" is the Strnand mic. Interesting way of connecting to the harp, but it included a really awful microphone. They are no longer made.

Greg, that's similar, but not quite right (actually, it fits my description better than the one I was thinking of). After some searching, I found the one I was thinking of in an old forum post:
