I have an old Shure Green Bullet microphone, I bought it in @1985. It came with a cable attached to it, and I had that removed and replaced with a 1/4" jack, but the guy had never done anything like that before so he did this instead:

I'd like to have all that cable gone, and the jack coming right from the mic; I've seen photos of Green Bullets like that.

Can anyone recommend a mic tech who'd be able and willing to do that?

James is the new guy on the block. He has a great website (he is a designer) and is very reasonable. He is my go to bullet guy on the east coast. I use to use Chuck Gurney in NC, but he has been out of action for a year. And of course Greg H. is awesome and I use him for anything for non bullet related, like the awesome wireless system and for Shure 545 and its relatives.

I have installed connectors in Green Bullets for years, I've probably done it a few hundred times. Feel free to contact me ( greg at blows me away dot com) (email address obscured to prevent spam remove the spaces, etc.) I charge $35 to do it.

Ahhhh the old "whip" approach. I had the same thing done to my JT30RH a long time ago. I never did warm to it. Just wound up using a 5/8" to 1/4" female adapter instead. Buddy of mine who primarily plays Shure style bullets swears by the whip method, but I still can't figure out why.
