When we were kids: maybe ten years old, we didn’t have money to buy records, so what we would do is, go to the local kmart, head to the record dept, and thumb thru the albums they had on hand, grab a few of them, and head off to the stereo dept. it didn’t take long till they figured out we had no intention on buying either the recordings or the stereo’s. So it was suggested we demo the stereo headphones. One record that I recall was Charlie musselwhite’s Stand back. I am reminded of that here, it has a sixties kinda vibe.

@1847 - Thanks for this great example of 5th position playing! At least I'm figuring it's a Bb in 5th position. In any case, I really want to try this now. Way cool.
Is this something that you got from Charlie? I'm not familiar with his entire range of playing. I remember a thread from a while back where we discussed "Way Down in the Hole" where it sounds like Charlie does some wild playing, but it just turned out to be really creative 1st position playing on the solo.
Now I'm going to listen a few more times. ---------- Ridge's YouTube

Are you sure about that? Has to be really creative then, ´cause I simply hear it as 3 pos playing on an Ab harp. (And quite frankly not entirely successful in my view.)
@Martin - I didn't mean to detract from the OP, I was just referring to the fact that I thought Charlie had done some 5th position work before. Here's the thread I was referencing what harp? what position?
As an aside, I am wrong TWICE about "Way down in the hole" by thinking the solo is Bb in 1st position. This was settled in the above thread: Solo is Low F# in 5th position. Moral of this story is that I should buy a low F# harmonica. ---------- Ridge's YouTube
I got 4 th position from Charlie ………..blues for ampara 5 th position was from lee oskar , he said A minor is related to C major, and you would use a F harp to play in C, so it would work well in A minor so I had an aha moment.
If I remember correctly I used a Bb, although, At the end I may have switched to A G harp, possibly a C harp in there at some point, we were rehearsing; I was just trying to figure out which harp Would be my best choice. I ended up using 2 nd position at the gig, it worked well.
Did we put the other thread to rest? If so possibly we can re-visit it I hear exactly what you said, Ab in third, 4 blow 4 draw 5 draw Sounds to me like Bb harp for the solo,as well. I think it warrants further study.
