Just spotted this thread on TGP...

RCA is making tubes again....

Looks like for now they're only producing 6L6's, and at a hefty price too! $200 A POP! Of course, Groove Tubes made claims of domestic production a while back that turned out to be bogus. But I, for one, think it's a cool thing that US made tubes are finally making a potential comeback. Can't wait to see what rolls out in the future.

It would be great if they were, especially the 12AY7's, which along with NOS GE's and Tung Sols of that particular number, would be welcome. If they are gonna make them in the US, one of the problems why pricing won't be cheap comes from the labor costs alone, plus getting the tooling back together, since just about every US tube maker all sold their toolings to either Russia, various parts of Eastern Europe and China. The other thing why it won't be cheap because the single, biggest customer by 1000 country miles, the US military and military of other countries stopped using tubes for their computers by 1985 the musical instrument amp market, by comparison is very tiny.

The whole Groove Tube thing even when it was matching US made tubes before they stopped making them in the US, from a number of good sources, told me that many of those tubes were seconds. Now I can't claim that as being true or not, but this was what I'd been told by some older vintage amp techs that I've known.

If they're gonna make them more like 50's and 60's stock, they'd definitely be welcome.
