I was teaching a student about the 4/5 draw warble in 2nd position, when he asked if I ever do the same warble with 1 draw and 2 draw bent whole step since he has a grasp of octaves now. I do. He couldn't understand how I could bend the 2 draw a full step and warble down to one draw unbent so rapidly without the one draw bending. Types of embrochures may dictate what works and does not, but I find that when I bend 2 draw a full step and slide down to one draw without changing anything that the 1 draw remains unbent. I actually found it more difficult to play the warble while bending both. My throat position is in a different place for 1 hole bent, than it is for 2 hole bent..so my warble sounds the same as 4/5 an octave lower. Just an interesting observation I thought I would share. Just proves that all bends are not the same and changes with harmonica key as well. Muscle memory is truly amazing.

Playing around with the capabilities of the Suzuki Overdrive has really let me explore the characteristics of bending on different notes too. For example, I can play the 2 draw 1/2 step bend, and then cover the blow chamber to stop the blow reed from sounding, and the bent note stays basically on pitch (but weaker). Do the same thing with the full step bend, and the bent note disappears. This leads me to believe that normal bends "begin" as single reed bends, and then pass over to "opening reed" bends of the opposite reed. This means that there is a point in the bend where both reeds are vibrating, but they are not always vibrating the same amount or even always both vibrating at the same time. ----------   YouTube! Isaac, I had an Overdrive once. My embrochure is too deep. Had no room for fingers and lips covered the holes...lol... It is an interesting idea, but I have yet to hear someone really take an overdrive out there.
