My GM Eb has always squeelled on a any bend of the 2 draw. A faint squeel on the 1st step bend and a bad squeel on the 2nd bend. Any ideas on how I can EASILY fix this? the harp is a year old but rarely played.

Two possibilities here. One is that you may have to carefully regap the reeds and it wouldn't surprise me that you'd need to do both reeds in the hole because in order to produce the bend, the two reeds interact with each other to help produce it).
The other, which doesn't happen often, but just about every harp manufacturer has gone thru this at some point in time, is that when the reed plates and comb were put together in the factory, the two plates weren't properly aligned at the factory and you may need to open the screws a play around with the alignment and then slowly, but very carefully screw the reed plates back together and recheck everything before final assembly. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

It might have underlying issues that simple adjustments won't cure. But try the basic stuff, make sure the reeds are centered and flatten the draw plate if you can. If the blow reed is gapped too wide it'll aggravate the problem, same with the draw reed. Squeals like this are usually a profile problem and can be ornery to deal with.

To find out if it is the blow- or draw reed (or both) it can help if you... Take the covers of. Block the blow slot with your finger. Make a draw bend 'till the reed chokes. It should be close to airtight and silent. If it squeels or whissles it could use adjustments. Then block the draw slot and do a blow bend. Is it air tight and silent? Well ... like doctors say ... a diagnos is easy, fixing it is not easy. ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the Tone

I remember having a brand new MBD w/ a squealing two draw bend. after trying everything in the book I replaced the blow reed since that is the reed that sounds on a bend. NADA. Then I replaced the draw reed. VIOLA!! I hate trouble shooting squeals. ---------- Affordable Reed Replacement Marks Harmonica Tune-up
