Harp folks - There have been many terms written here in passing coversations(plinking, gapping, etc...). Can someone please recommend a specific youtube video (or two) that addresses the very basics of harmonica upkeep? Is there a definitive place for these videos? As a visual learner (and child of the 80's), I find that I zone out rather quickly on written instructions... Thanks good people! Heath

Why not try searching on YouTube something like "harmonica repair"? I think you'll find a lot there, and then one video leasds to another.

The blessing and the curse of the internet is that anyone can post about any subject. I am hoping to get some guidance on a specific, definitive video or two by experts. As a college professor, weekend harp gig-er, and full time daddy to two tiny humans, I don't have the time to sift that haystack for that golden needle... Pistolcat - thank you for replying to SH in this helpful way.
One of the issues that came up in the discussion about beginners/newbies was around new posters, asking a question that had been asked many times before, and now patient many of the experienced members were in repeating the good advice!
The Joe Spiers videos are a definitive resource, and pretty much *every* beginner will need to be pointed at them (well, not saying SH is a beginner, but it was his first post!) Ditto Greg explaining the difference between HiZ and LoZ and, and...
It's great that people come to MBH as the repository of expert knowledge.

Arzajac has nice videoes and so has mark prados.
Edit: the suggestion to "search the forum" is not a blow off. It's good advice. I encourage everyone here, new users and old, to aquatint them with the search engine. A lot of information that can be found there. The revival of a thread can be quite fun too, IMHO.

I'd agree with that. I think as well Adam (Kudzurunner) has some great videos too. Also Hakan has done some videos about how he tunes his harmonicas which are very good. He even did one where he shows how to use earplugs to make a harmonica sound more powerful lol. But from what I've seen there are a few idiots out there too who tell you to do things which are a little daft! I would guess that if a video is worth listening too on this stuff, go see if they have any videos of them playing (unless they are specific customisers of whom some don't play but are great at what they do), if they aren't well known, and can't play to save their lives.... don't listen to them!

Joe Spiers and Richard Sleigh. I haven't seen as many videos, but I've read some Kinya Pollard and found his articles very helpful. Adam has a nice video on basic gapping:

I don't have the link, but David Payne had a good one where he used a piece of cardboard he'd cut like a reed to show things in a bigger scale.
