I took apart my Kustom Tube 12A to get to it's delicious insides - a Celestion Super 8 speaker. I used the speaker in another amp, and then noticed I could make an amp head out of the guts.

Had to turn it upside down because of the tube, and then I used the rubber feet from the original amp. Turned out to be the perfect head for my new 10" speaker cab (eBay) with Eminence speaker.

Pretty nice! Have you thought about putting together a head cab for it so you can piggyback her right side up?

And is that a Retro Rocket I spy in the before pic?

Yes, the old Rocket - still love it. The amp could use a cab because there are sharp edges on the metal. Gotta be a little careful when I pick it up.

This project made me love this amp even more. You can get them, with the Celestion Super 8, for $60. Pop in a new tube and you're set. Also has line out and speaker out, which I am using for the cab.

I've built a few head cabs for cheaper amp chassis's in the past. Shoot me an email if you want/need any ideas on that detail.

Thanks! Got the speaker cab from a guy on eBay from Fesno, CA. Unfinished pine, smells great. Trying to keep this as all American as possible, so would love an American made custom amp head cab - that would be a cool touch.

You should just get one off eBay or whatever. I'd buy! Esp if you can do a something in metal.

A chassis for the head made out of metal, like sheet metal. Actually, it just needs some sheet metal sides, and a frame around the faceplate (the faceplate is the sharp part). It's smaller than it looks in the pic.

You wouldn't want it in unfinished pine to match the speaker cab?

I like how small it is now, so I think a wood chassis would be too big. The faceplate and bottom are black, so black for the top and sides would look cool. But you should get one of these no matter what, Kane, they're fun to fool around with. If nothing else, you get a Celestion Super 8 in the deal. I was just about to get another one when I took this one apart.
