Big? It looks too big to be a tremolo and I can't see a button on it. I think it may be a bass harp but I can't be sure. Someone will be able to tell you pretty quickly though. I have read somewhere that some of these harps have blow notes only...I think!!
Unless George Smith was a small person...then it might be a tremolo.
Edit...might be this...http://www.theharmonicacompany.com/_harmonicastore/product/222-hohner-chromatica.asp

I kinda thought that Gnarly. I never heard anyone call him little George "harmonica" Smith. So it's not a tremolo then. ---------- Oisin

I haven't seen the photo, but I reckon it's the one of George with a very long, slim harp. I think it was just a good prop for a photo.
I think it's a Polyphonia number 7, which was the biggest in the range. 1 semitone per hole, some were all blow notes, others alternated blow. ----------

A Polyphonia is somewhat of a chromatic, but not in the sense that you normally see. Each hole has a note 1/2 step apart (wheras a chromatic is essentially a pair of solo tuned diatonic reed plates where a mouthpiece/slide assembly closes or opens up a set of reed plates) and it's main use is for the old school harmonica orchestras for glissandos. It looks great in pictures, but for most genres, it's not an instrument worth the investment in to use on a gig outside of an old school harmonicsa orchestra like Borrah Minevitcxh's Harmonica Rascals. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
