I already own a couple of bullet mics. I'm thinking of getting an SM 58 or SM 57 for Christmas to be able to practice my acoustic playing. I will be plugging directly into one of my amps. (Zoo/BR-6/Super Champ XD) Will I need a DI box or something similar to match the impedance ? I am also wondering if Greg's ultimate 57 will fit on a mic stand and how well the 57 works for playing acoustically ? If it fits a mic stand that would allow it to be a dual purpose mic and I could use it for electric or acoustic right ? Any thoughts, experience, or suggestions would be appreciated. Santa is waiting to hear from me.

A DI might work. What's cheaper and easier though would be an inline impedance transformer. The Audix T50K is an old favorite among harp players. ----------

DI boxes are usually for hi to low impedance (most commonly used for instruments to PA's). You need an impedance transformer. Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Swamp-Impedance-Transformer-Matcher-DI-XLR-f-1-4-m-Mic-to-Guitar-Amp-/111169581561?pt=AU_Pro_Audio&hash=item19e23931f9 ---------- Lucky Lester

As Hawkeye says, the Audix T50K does the trick.

I use a 57 every time through pa, that is all you need, the rest is technique. Just buy a standard 57 and buy a volume control from Gregg. Wrap some rubber bands around the top of the mic to ease your grip, and good to go, Merry Xmas..

An Ultimate 57 doesn't fit a standard mic clip. It requires one with a larger diameter. They are available at music stores.

The Audix T-50 I tried was a tone sucker. A shame because I like the pigtail design. Of course, you can add a simple headphone extension cable to any IMT to get the same benefit. BlowsMeAway carries impedance matching transformers AND mic clips for Ultimate mics.
@Messy - the Ultimate 57 is one of the most versatile mics on the planet. You can mount it in a stand and use it for warm clean vocals or acoustic harp. You can hand hold it and cup it for a nice overdriven tone. If you have to mic an an amp it works well for that too.....
