I'm thinking of updating my looper to something lighter and maybe more versatile than my HeadRush. I'm tempted by those new ones with tons of features that only have one pedal switch that does everything (rec/play/overdub/stop). Namely Jamman Solo/Express XT and Boss RC-3.
The only problem I can think of is the double-press stop function. In my set I often kill the loop to play a solo or a short fill/break, and bring everything back after a while. My question is: if I start playing a solo for example on the last beat before I stop the beat, will the looper record my playing on the short period of time between my two pedal clicks? And when I bring the beat back, can you hear that short recording in the end of the loop?
Any extra noises can sound really bad in a loop, so I'm thinking whether these pedals are for me or not.
I guess most loopers just build the beat, play the song and then stop all at once, so for them this wouldn't be a problem. But I'm using breaks so often, I can't allow slices of notes ruining my beat.
Any experiences with this?

I have the same question and have been contemplating what I need to do. I was thinking a bypass FX loop AB switch or some thinglike that. An on and off loop function would be great. Hope some one has the answer. Mike

I've been holding off, but I've got money I've saved up for a looper now and I'm looking at the options again too.

Well, I placed an order for a Jamman Solo XT. I'll let you know what I think after I've tried it.
It seems like a nice pedal for looping, with almost next generation features that go well beyond basic looping (drum patterns, time stretching, tap tempo, reverse loop, usb etc). If the single stomp-box interface feels insufficient, one can also easily link two Solo/Express pedals and get a new range of possibilities. I'd be interested to see if that solves any of the multi-press problems, though.
I believe Brendan Power has used a single footswitch Boss pedal with success? I'd love to hear his experiences about the functionality.

I have the old dual pedal jam-man and Its been a great practice tool as well as a live looper, the only other worth buying is the boss version, and they both can store loops, I tried the headrush but the digitech is the best, also one to look at is the vox looper but haven't. Tried, so no info as yet!
