I started watching the documentary "It Might Get Loud" last night. For those who don't know it, it's a look at the lives and playing styles of David "The Edge" Evans, Jimmy Page, and Jack White.

White's guitar is the one that fascinates me the most. A Gretsch Anniversary Jr. that he had modified to integrate a Green Bullet on a retractable cable in the bodystock (unknown if its vintage or current production), and a theremin next to his Bigsby.

Parsons Guitars - The Green Machine

Question I have is for you mic moguls. How the HELL is this thing set up do you reckon? I'd ask Parsons, but I bet he'd be reluctant to disclose. I know the retractable cable is on a vacuum cleaner reel. But how is it wired up do you reckon? I only see one cable, so is it just paired up on the guitar's line somehow?

Sorry Hawk can't help with an explanation of the green bullet set-up, but i did want to weigh in on the documentary which was fantastic. Anybody who is a fan of rock and blues would enjoy it. Despite being a Led Zep / Page fan I thought Jack White stole the show. Loved his two minute construction of the rudimentary guitar and the bit about his fondness for the Son House recording. Also, the movie demostrated for me why I don't care for The Edge as he's mostly about the effects he layers on.

Anyway, I'm sure there's a MBH member out there whose got an idea about how the bullet was hooked up. If you don't get an answer after a few days, try posting with a different thread title, as non-Jack White fans may not be inclined to click on the thread.

My Jack White story....

I met Jack White at a shoe shine stand in Nashville airport a few years back. I didn't know who he was, he seemed like any other commuter in the airport. We were both sitting in our chairs and ended up chatting for about 15 minutes, really about nothing I can remember, just shooting the breeze and laughing with each other and the shoe shine guys. We both finished up at the same time and were exchanging goodbyes when a young lady came up to me and asked for me to take a snap of Mr. White and her. He seemed embarrassed, but obliged and then asked the woman if she would like a photo with me as I was the famous too. We all laughed, we said out goodbyes and went our separate ways. Later, I saw Jack in his boarding area with members of the Raconteurs and it hit me who it was as he was with that band member that had those oversized black frame glasses, like one of the hockey Hanson brothers.

I remember seeing him on the Grammies or one of those music award shows as part of the White Stripes. They ripped into a Son House song that I found mesmerizing for its sonic power and couldn't believe I was hearing this fierce electric howl on national TV. It was brilliant, but I also figure half of America were terrified and flipped the channel.

best info I could find about it is in this article:

http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/jack-white-mega-sonic-on-the-sounds-that-drive-the-white-stripes-raconteurs-and-dead-weather/1154

so there is an MXR Micro Amp pedal wired INSIDE the thing as well as the built in mic and theremin.

in the article he says the middle pickup is wired to that internal MXR, and I am willing to bet the "green bullet" (they admit it's not a real one) is wired to that same circuit, since when he uses it in the video you hear it has more gain than the cleaner tone he had before he picks up the mic.

Wonder what kind of element is in there. Greg oughta try getting in touch with him to see if he'd want one of his wood mics instead. No offense to Mr. Parsons or anything, but let an expert take a looksee. :-)
