Here's a mod I've been doing on my Zoo. After seeing the new Calimazoo reissue with its dummy load resistor for preamp use, I decided to do the same thing to my '65....with a twist. Instead of mounting the resistor inside the chassis with a switched speaker jack, I built a load box.

I got my hands on a quality built IRC wirewound ceramic resistor. 10W 7.5 ohm (although it tested out at 8.6 ohms on my multimeter). One of its terminals was sheared off near the ceramics, so I soldered some stripped speaker wire to it, and mounted it up in a single AA battery cartridge in place of a terminal strip, then wired both ends up to a 1/4" jack.

I also put a 1/4" speaker plug on the OT leads, and mounted up a 1/4" female whip connector to the speaker.

Then placed the load box in the corner and secured it with a sing screw. I can now either use the amp with the speaker normally, or run the load box for silent use in recording or preamplification, and use the line out on its own.

I figure this way I can use the load box with other small 8-ohm amps in the future.
