Hi... I was lucky enough to acquire a Silvertone 1482 recently.Totally stock and still doing good...so i'm leaving everything the way it is... Sadly it was just the head. It's in good shape for it's age. And it sounds pretty good at low volumes, too. It was originally designed with a closed back, right? I'm about to experiment and find out which is better. oh I installed a nice pair of evenly match ROla smooth cone's. A 12" and a 10". Just shootin the breeze! Open or closed....>

It may be my hearing loss but I never noticed an appreciable difference. I'm on my third 1482 now and the first one was open back, the next two have the covers. The first one had a square cutout for the speaker while this latest has a round hole in the baffle. I'm also not sue this was significant. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

To me the sweet spot always seems to be about 60% closed on the bottom.

Go for the semi open man! The happy medium , an open cab might loose to much bass. Gonna start a small project myself soon , gonna try to build a new cab for my Dano 272 cause I just don't trust the 60yr old press board lol! If I can actually pull it off I bring it down on a wedsnday if I can ever get my ass down there,

Ummm.....are you sure that's a 1482? It doesn't look like any 1482 chassis I've ever seen. Every 1482 I've come across had a vertically mounted chassis and a totally different layout. To me, that chassis looks like one of a 1484, which was a completely different, albeit more powerful and still VERY cool amp. ----------

I meant to say 1484...yeah, it's got alot of power....almost too much. Well, too much. And I need to find a feedblocker. The tone is perfect, though. I'm happy with it. I may put back as the head amp it was originally. And try it out with a single 12. I looked around online and found out it's a 4 ohm out. Any recommendations? on a gooood speaker? ----------

A 4-ohm 12"? Hmmm....lots of bass speakers that fit the bill....but not a great choice in our line of work.
My initial thought is Jensen. Maybe a C12K or a MOD 12-70. 60W is an awful lot to pump into a single speaker cab. I've heard good things about Jensen's neodymiums for harp. Maybe the Jet Tornado? ----------

Yep, 1484. I find them and there Danelectro counterparts tend to be a little bright. I love mine. It works well with my Phat mic. Those amps are a PITA to work on. It's ugly in there. Those can get real loud when needed. Be carfull with the speaker load, those OT's are frail.
Have a 6 Ten head here that is a canidate for converting to true stereo. If you dropped an effect, you could get another tube to work with. That would be the same as two, 1484's...BN
