It's not a Hohner but the Seydel Session Steel is available in Low C and I would compare it very favorably to a Special 20. I can't image you not being happy with it.

All these catch phrases are killing me!! lol I came up with a few of my own:

Don't sit idle with a Seydel
They'll think you're spooky with Suzuki,
Get a Bohner for a Hohner!

HAHA sorry, I couldn't resist.

But in all seriousness, I would highly recommend the Thunderbird. As far as OOTB harps, The Thunderbird is by far the Loudest, Most Responsive, Most in Tune, and Easiest to Bend Low harps on the Market. I love the Sound of the Bamboo Comb. The greatest part about these harps (IMO) is the Filisko Bottom Covers. They are exactly how He builds his customs (if not better) and completly eliminates that pesky #1 draw rattle that is so problematic on a majority of lower harps.

I've played and teched a lot of these harps OOTB (somewhere around 200 I'd guess) And they very very rarely need any adjustment. They are not only the best low Tuned harps out there, but they are also some of the best playing and most consistant OOTB harps PERIOD!

Now back to more silly catch phrases.......lol

The T-Birds are really nice. I have several and have never modified them. Really great build quality!

Stan - you will drop a log if you ever get your lips around a Tbird - playing one for the first time is an instant laxative, you've been warned :)

I've been pretty happy with the Session brass in the lower keys. I have a few and I half-valved them on holes 1-4. They sounded really nice. The other option would be the Solist Pro low octave plates with 1847 conical lower plates and half-valved 1-4.

Both of these options can you out the door for your price. All of the above comments on the topic are equally valid, though.

Adam, good pros bro...

I've played a low tuned Seydel Blues Favorite and a low tuned sessions (LLF and LD harmonic minor). They aren't as loud as my higher harps, but they both play well and I've got a microphone.

Also, since lower tuned harps carry the melody less often you may want to consider what temperament you want. On a regular C I'd lean towards ET myself, but on a low C I'd want something closer to Just. (Seydel lets you pick with their configurator).

You'll be playing the mombo if you get a Tombo? (Well, that's not even an option. They don't even have low tunings.) :)

I'm hooked on the "Power Draw" tuning so it's a no brainer for me. Rockin'Ron Can get me a low tuned P.D.Steel for $79.00 delivered and they are outstanding ootb harps.
