OK, since we have no HCH, I'm going to go to David Barrett's Master Class.I have week off work, I thought it would be a good idea to fly to San Francisco first and see the sites. What is the best way to get back down to San Jose, I am familiar with light rail in San Jose,it stops right in front of the Hilton where David's holding the event. I would be leaving San Franciso on a Thursday.

When I did Barrett's Class in the 90's, I took that light rail to and from SF

Caltrain. There is a station in downtown SJ that's a few blocks away from where David has his last shindig. The station is also right across the street from the Poor House Bistro. Awesome food. Live music almost every night of the week.

I don't believe light rail goes to SF. BART doesn't make it to San Jose. You can take BART from the SF airport to downtown SF. There is a Caltrain station in downtown SF.

Actually, you'd take the BART one stop south to Milbrea, which is the end the of the line and where you'd transfer to CalTrain. From there you'd take the train to downtown San Jose, which let's you off pretty much in the center of downtown. I've done it many a time, and it's pretty easy to do...

isaacullah is right on.

By the way, the Masterclass has a harmonica jam on Thursday night until 10, OR you can try to get to Little Lou's BBQ for a great jam with Aki Kumar on Thursday night. Good tri-tip sandwiches, too.

Have fun in SF and I'll see you at the Masterclass.

Just to clear up any confusion - if you're in the southeast part of SF (near the SF Giant's Ballpark) then you're close to the Caltrain station and can take that all the way to SJ. If not, but you're near the BART line (which doesn't cover all of The City, not even close) then take BART to Millbrae and transfer to Caltrain.

If you're there on Wednesday, use the same strategy to get on Caltrain and get off in Redwood City. You are walking distance from the famed Redwood City Blues Jam (http://rwcbluesjam.com) - always a good show - and Aki and Joe are frequently there as well. That show starts at 7PM. When you get off the train, there's a big shopping center on one side of the tracks. You want to head in the other direction - across the street and to your right a bit you'll be looking at the rear of the Club Fox Theatre, whose entrance is on Broadway (which actually crosses the tracks just behind where you got off the train.)
