he has a rental company man would it be fun to rent that amp. use it for a blues jam? now who here would not want to play thru that?
most likely he would not let just anybody use it but perhaps if we asked him nicely.
i would like to hear how my bassman compares to that one.
there was a 1960 bassman on ebay yesterday, it went for $5000.00 there is a very cool pierson bassman on there now $1800.00 ----------

damn...thought this was a thread about Rod Hicks, bass man who played w/butterfield on the great LIVE album.
Knew Rod, as he was a bass player in the jazz community in Detroit. He told me that this gig was way fun. ---------- The Iceman

Sorry, I missed something. I don't understand. Is the photo the inventory of a vintage amp rental company somewhere that has on offer Butterfield's original Bassman? ---------- LSC

You have to follow the Neil Young Guitar Tech link.. But yeah basically that bassman in the photo is the butterfield bassman and it is available for hire. Maybe. The guy owns a lot of amps. ----------

ok, i am curious there are several players that would not like to play thru a vintage fender bassman. is it because you are primarily an acoustic player? just curious. ----------

When I saw Butterfield play I didn't see any tan fenders on stage. It looked like he was playing through a suitcase black face fender amp.

I think I read somewhere that Cragg also had a hand in the development of the bigger new Magnatone amps. ----------

@Diggs "When I saw Butterfield play I didn't see any tan fenders on stage. It looked like he was playing through a suitcase black face fender amp."
From photographic evidence, it appears he used the bassman through until & during 1966, don't know for how much of that year. Even during '66 the band were supplied with Fenders via sponsorship and in some pics the Bassman is on stage with what look like BF Twins & Super Reverbs. Certainly by '68 the bassman isn't seen, AFAIK.
Good to see you back here, by the way. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

ok i think i get it there are people here who would not want to play thru this amp because...... it is not retro enough
i heard a couple of bands recently who were doing old school blues something you would of hear on maxwell street in the early fifties. i will have to say i completely enjoyed myself. my hat is off to them very nice.
but come on.... let your hair down hasn't everyone jammed with others? born in chicago, is a tune that is called out quite often. perhaps you just need to get in the right frame of mind if you know what i,m saying. lol

Butterfield's bassman had casters on it. That's not to say it's impossible that he owned more than one, or that we just can't see the mounts on the amp in Cragg's photo. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

i certainly cannot verify the authenticity of that amp heck i never knew he used one. i do know if i bought a bassman, and it had casters the first thing i would do is take them off. it only weighs 60 lbs lol my guess is there is a very high probability it is paul's amp the guy who owns it, is the guitar tech for neil young, neil plays harmonica so did paul they were both at the last waltz in 1979? they were both at woodstock 1969 pretty safe bet to say they were friends. i would like to hear the story how he acquired the amp. then again perhaps i would not want to, remember both of them had a serious battle with addiction.
