On a standard diatonic the blow reedplate (the top reedplate) has the rivets lined up close to the holes, (at the front of the harp). Yet the draw reedplate (the bottom reedplate) has the rivets arranged in an angled line at the back of the harp.

Would the harp work if the draw reedplate was constructed like the blow reedplate eg with the rivets in a straight line directly under the cover plate on the front underside of the harp where the holes are.

So, in essence, I suppose what I'm saying is, the reed gap for the blow reeds is away from the player and the gap for the draw reed is close to the player as we can activate both reeds when overblowing does it matter what end of the reed is closest to the player and would there be any benefit in expermenting with having the rivets all at the same end of all the reeds?

10/10 If you're still with me. It just occurred to me that maybe it's always been done that way and nobody has tried it. It may make a deal of difference, I don't know. Just a thought.

hmmm. I don't know the answer, but you could take the draw reedplate off of a Bb harp, put it in place of the blow reedplate of a C harp, and find out!
