It is a scam. We had an email come in not long ago claiming to be a friend of ours from England. Needed bail to get out and reclaim confiscated pass port...I don't know how they knew that we knew the folks across the pond, but I knew they were trying to rip us off. We recently had 2 elderly neighbors get nailed by a crew from Jaimaca. So pass the word about that to your circle of friends. The Jaimacans claim they have a prize from Publishers Clearing House and need $100 to release it. Or they find our where you shop and say every time you shop there, your receipt is entered into a drawing and you won. Send $100 to release the prize money. You get the idea. So be on the look out.

Two clues this is a scam, the recipient(s) are all BCCed and the reply-to is different than the sent email address (jasonricci1@yahoo.com)

It's probably just a virus. I recommend Ubuntu.

I haven't gotten this particular email from Jason's email address, but I've gotten a dozen such emails from "friends" over the years.

It's a sure sign that somebody's email account has been hacked. My friends (for the most part) are literate native English speakers, but the emails almost always aren't, and that's the giveaway.

At least, I think it was him.......

I guess I'll know for sure when Andrew and I meet him for dinner.

I got the same message. Adam, the "reply to" is the same as the "from". Jason has my number, I suggested he call it. I went back and forth with the writer (whoever he is) a few times. He claimed he was in "real bad shape" and "could really use the help". One day before getting the fishy email, I was having an actual email conversation with Jason via his same email address. After I suggested that the writer call me, I recieved no further contact.

Hey everyone thanks for the concern. Yes my email was hacked and the worse part of it was/is they deleted all my old sent/received emails and contacts, presumably to cipher through them for info etc. I have been out of touch with the harp community and world in general for a a few months now as it has become imperative that I take my mental health and sobriety more seriously then ever before. I have just been concentrating on 12 step groups, therapy, and my overall health more so then ever before because I recently have faced more challenges in those areas then ever before. I sincerely appreciate all your support. I am looking forward to doing more videos, recordings, lessons and gigs someday, hopefully soon but right now that is not a pressing priority. I very much appreciate Gary Hodgeson's help in re-issuing my old out of print recordings and that money has helped a bit to make this break possible additionally I have been doing some sparse session work here and there to make ends meet. Thank you so much to everyone I do so ver7y much cherish all of your love and sport!

Mudhound, your most recent post has my vote as the most inadvertently hilarious post EVER contributed to this forum. And it's only your 26th! Amazing.

"There's always some kind of drama going on with him."

That's the definition of the blues. What's funny is that you don't seem to know this.

"I can't quit you baby, but I've got to put you down for a while." Surely you've heard of Otis Rush? Check out this video. It's dramatic:

I don't know your definition of the blues. Perhaps it's grounded in accountancy. But even accountants have a sense of drama. "I've been adding up your receipts, baby, and they just don't quite tally as exactly as I wish they did."

You make drama sound like a bad thing. Where did you get your concept of the blues? I'm all ears. But only after you've listened to the entire video I've posted above. Until you've done that, I won't be convinced that you have any idea what you're talking about.

"The blues singer translates every happening into his own intimate inconvenience."

Nope. I’m not brawling with the diehard JR faction who never fail to try and justify. I’ve followed the story. I know the history. It’s not mandatory that I drink the JR kool-aid. I have my opinion.
Let’s just leave it at that and agree to disagree.

Mudhound, you act as if none of us personally know Jason. He's not just "that guy" to many of us. It's not about you commenting on his work or situation, it's that you are snarking about someone many of us know and have kind regards for because of that.

MUDHOUND has a good point and should be allowed to draw his own conclusions/opinions without argument or debate regarding right/wrong.

KingoBad sez "Mudhound, you act as if none of us personally know Jason."

That statement is slightly askew...it is an assumption based on the poster's outlook. Isn't it more a projection of the poster's thought process than a real incite into MUDHOUND?

On this list and others, Jason has a small army of staunch supporters that jump to his defense when someone makes a critical comment...more so than I've seen with any other harmonica player.

Don't know if this is good or bad...it just is.

Jason has extreme talent attached to extreme demons.

What he is going through now is very difficult. Not everyone can make it through.

Hope he does.

Time will tell.

I don't consider myself a worshipper of anyone but it's pretty much fact that Jason is an extraordinary harp player who has given us so much with his videos etc. and taken so very little. I hope he still gets paid for cd sales cause' I just got myself another from Amazon. All best wishes to Jason from me as well.

"it has become imperative that I take my mental health and sobriety more seriously than ever before."

I hope and pray that Jason can faithfully live out that mandate above that he shared with us.

Jason is wise enough to fully comprehend how crucial every decision is that he makes in order to live up to what he knows is truly important in life.

He is a relatively young man and is approaching a new decade of his life the 40's...

It can end up being the greatest 10 years of his life... what a blessing it is to have a new day to make things right and step up to the plate of adulthood :)

FIghting a battle with any kind of addiction is never an easy task. That fight is probably made harder by seeing people discuss your problems for all the world to see, especially when many of those same people often may have no idea of the strength it takes to wage those kinds of battles. I only hope that Jason manages to come through his battles as unscathed as possible. Aside from his astounding ability to play music on the harmonica I have always found Jason to be a very interesting, humble, knowledgable, helpful and friendly person. My fingers are crossed for him and I'm glad that he is concentrating on his health and welfare.

Iceman, I'm not sure how you accuse my statement as being "askew" without being guilty of the same with your own statement.

Perhaps I should have said that because Jason is a participant on this forum AND this very thread, that it is RUDE to refer to him as "this guy."

There is really no reason to discuss this privately. If my statement above proves that JR can do no wrong here, you are sadly mistaken. All that my statement above shows is how silly you sound. But since you seem to be a glutton for punishment....

When I walk through the cemetery which I do often - we have one of the most beautiful ones in the world in my neighborhood - I am always intrigued by the age differences in the dearly departed - wonder what the after life will be like or is death a scam... don't answer that - I am merely thinking out loud:)

Here is an observation - though there are tons of obese people, there a no old obese people?
