Other than a HarpGear, Kalamazoo or Champ what would be your recommendation as the very best low wattage tube combo?. Curious if there is a consensus. ---------- LSC

Consensus, here? Bahahahaha!
The very best low watt (12 watts)....I got a 1958 Fender Tweed Deluxe.
It's the BEST.

Valco model 51 circuit is hard to beat. Supro Spectator and Comet models are still fairly priced. I have a 1X8 Kendrick Champ clone that I'd never sell, little pricey though.

How about a premier 50 early 60's with a 7591? Like it better then the zoo with a weber 8 inch. Nice lows and loud..although with the 7591 it might be 10 watts? It is about the same size as a zoo.
Have not owned a Valco comet but they sure sound nice. 528hemi

@ Rick- Is that the stock tube for the Twin 8? Would you happen to know how Premier compares technically and/or subjectively to a Valco Bantam or such?

Second the Valco circuit or most early Valco circuits. First videos are reporductions based right off the Valco circuits by Vintage47amps. I would love to hear Nick playing one of these...
I would avoid the Bantams.
Not only are they good for harp and electric guitar they are good for acoustic guitar...

I picked up a god deal on a used Vintage 47 Supro Comet 10. It's an awesome 5 watter, great for rehearsals. I did a small bar date recently where I ran it in tandem it with my Deluxe. It's a solid built amp and very reliable.

LSC, the 7591 was the stock tube in the Twin 8 I had, which I believe was a 1962 model. If you go to Schematic Heaven you can see the Twin 8 came with everything from 7591 to 6V6 to 6L6.
The Premier Twin 8 amp and other amps built in NYC by Multivox were pretty flexible on their parts sourcing.
I was talking to Bruce Collins about my Twin 8 amp a couple days ago (he did work on it) and he said something like, "Yeah, that was grindy little bitch." Indeed it was. I miss it.

A fender champ?
I have a SF champ and it soud very good, perfect for recording, but useless for giging.

There is a excellent local harp/guitar duo. The harp player plays through an old beat up 5 watt Lectrolab. That amp is killer. Very loud for 5W and great tone.

LSC, make sure the volume is up in the lower left corner of the video image, next to the little speaker icon. Hover your mouse over the video to bring up the bar under the video.
