Just a heads up for anyone living near East Central Illinois who may be interested:

RJ Mischo is coming to Champaign, IL, and he will be backed by the Kilborn Alley Blues Band.

This is a really cool combination!

Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 7:30 PM at Bentley's Pub, 419 N. Neil Street, Champaign, IL. $4 cover

Hmmmm.....you made the trip to the 'Field to see him, Doug. I think I may very well return the favor and venture over.

Hope to see you there. According to RJ's schedule he is also coming to Springfield, IL the following Monday, but I don't know about Kilborn or who will back him.

Heck, even if it's just the one guy on drums and Tele like last time he was here, it's still a great show!

He is in Denver this weekend playing a few shows, including the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Harp Blowdown.

RJ seems to really live that carefree gypsy kind of life style - are there any articles out there where he talks a little about his personal life etc ?

RJ brought a 1962 Fender brown Concert 4x10, with four vintage ceramic C10Q jensen speakers.

Frank, I think Joe_L knows him well. Perhaps he can tell you.

I've read a little here and there how he travels alone and hooks up with a band where ever he is scheduled to play... he seems like a modern day hobo - if he ever comes to burgh - he is welcome to crash at my place :)

Rick, Yes you're right Joe knows him very well indeed. Joe has known RJ a very long time. RJ is a great harp player and singer. He is also one of the hardest working pro players out there.

RJ is a great guy and a total class act! I've known him for about 15 years. He travels a lot and usually works with local bands. He's been living in Arkansas for the past several years. Not exactly a hot bed of Blues activity.

Like most professional musicians who play Blues, he doesn't lead a "carefree" lifestyle. I believe he conducts all of his own business. He books his own gigs and assembles bands. Hustling gigs like he does is a lot of work. He spends a lot of time on the phone.

When he lived in Minnesota, there was a pretty good blues scene up there. He learned a lot from Sonny Rogers, Lazy Bill Lucas and Mojo Buford. A lot of people went up to Minneapolis from Chicago.

I had pretty much quit playing before I met RJ. He and his wife coaxed me back into playing. He has introduced me to a lot of very cool people. RJ is a true friend.

(If that's RJ's Concert, it is one of he best sounding amps that I have ever played through. He is very particular about equipment, often preferring to play through the PA using just a vocal mic.)

On his most recent CD, RJ thanked Joe_L in the liner notes. Pretty cool.

Thanks Joe... from a far for an amateur like me - it can appear to look charming even carefree ...but to get in the trenches and actually live it would mostly kill the unsuspecting traveler of the blues life I imagine
