A band I've been asked to join sent me their set list with this included. They said they do it along the lines of Tbone Walker, although they didn't say what key. Any suggestions about how to approach this? I belive the Walker version is in D minior (?), so I would probably opt to play a C in 3rd position if this band is playing in that key. Does that make sense, or are there more appropriate ways to approach this? I did play around with a C chromatic with the button out (not that I know what I am doing with it), and that sounded okay. Thanks. Rich

I've most often heard it played in G Major, so I play it in 2nd on a C harp. But if they indeed play it in Dm, then yes, I'd go C harp 3rd.

Cross harp has always worked fine for me on this song. When I sing it I do it in G on a C harp, and I have also done it in A on a D harp accompanying other singers.

Here is a YouTube version by T Bone done in Ab (you would use a Db in 2nd):

The chords are a little different than straight 12 bar blues, but if you listen and choose your notes, you can easily play it in 2nd position. For this version, you need a Db harp to play along.

Good luck, have fun with this great song!

Edit: I started posting before the video by Chris was posted, but it took a while to get the post done. Chris was masterful and gives good instruction.

To me the key is hearing the changes and only playing notes consistent with the chords. For that you need to open your ears and when playing, be willing to step outside of the standard 12 bar chords.
