Has anybody tried this for harp?
Ampeg GVT15-112 Combo. It's 2 ax's and 2 6v6's through a 12 inch speaker.
Sells for 330 euro's over here in Europe. Which is less than the super champ X2. It's a pretty manageable price. Comes with 3 band EQ. And it has the 15/7,5 watt switch, which - to refer to the VHT sp6 thread - makes it cover the range from duo stuff to small Jams (and if you mic it, probably more).
The reason why I ask is this: on the Amp for sale, Adam recommends his little brother over the VHT sp6. And the bigger VHT (20 watts) and the Bugera V22 are all EL84's. And more expensive. So wouldn't this be the logical 15 watt ish amp on a budget? Why is there nothing on this amp with harp? Not here, not on youtube? (there isn't much on the super champ x2 either, but at least something. That hasn't got the half power switch, but comes with a line out..)

I don't know that one. But the Ampeg Jet (even the re-issue) is a VERY good harp amp.

I took a look on the block scematic and it seems to be a quite good one.

"Why is there nothing on this amp with harp?"
Possibly because the GVT series is still relatively new. I think they were only released last year. By and large, Ampeg has had a rather lackluster rapport with harp players. They've had a few gems, but not many.
I've played the GVT5, and it's a very nice Champish amp. The reissue Jet J-20 is also very nice...20 watts and a 12" alnico will take you places, lemme tell ya. Looks to me like the GVT15 would be comparable to a tweed Deluxe with a bit more bite and a reverb included.
BTW Willy, the VHT Special 12/20 is a 6V6 amp, not EL84. They advertise the fact that one can run EL84's in them with their socket adapters, but they come stock with 6V6's. I gotta say though....the Special 12/20RT looks like one of the most versatile amplifiers I've ever laid eyes on. ----------

Hey Hawkeye,
We were talking about 2 different amps. I meant this one http://www.thomann.de/de/vht_lead_20_combo_avgt120.htm The other one (though spectacular looking) is way more expensive than those two.
The one you're talking about doesn't seem to get a lot of reviews either btw.
Hope someone gets to try some of these out. The Ampeg looks like a Princeton Reverb Reissue with a smashing EQ for a third of the price of the original. How cool would it be if it would be a good harp amp!

I've got an Ampeg dealer here in town. I may ask him if he plans to get any GVT amps in soon that I could try out. I'll let you know. ----------

That would be awesome! Gives me a goal in saving :)
And some others too perhaps. It's strange that everybody gets recommended 5 watt amps for starters. For most urban environments, those are way to loud. I practice on a Danelectro Hodad, which gets louder than my neighbours except at 1,5 watts... Gain-knob untouched. Why not practice on that and go straight for the more gigable size of 7,5/15 watts like this Ampeg? Ok, band practice perhaps. I use a PA for that..

Well, I called him just now, and he said there's been no talk of ordering any Ampeg guitar amps in the immediate future. They only have SVT's. Springfield's never really been much of an Ampeg community outside of bass amps. Around here it's pretty much all Fender, Marshall, Peavey, and Egnater. ----------

Funny how those things go. One might be missing out. One mightn't. Oh well.
Cool of you to call! Reminds me of the timezone thing btw. I was thinking (very shortly): cool shop to be open at 23 hours :)
