It's been an aim of mine to transform my old broken harps into a complete backup set of good working harps.
Not only do I like the notion of recycling, but also this can make good economic sense, given the expense of the better quality harps these days.
So, although I've managed to acquire some harmonica repair and upgrade skills and tools over the years, this bone yard of harps never seemed to get touched.
I seem to use the skills, tools, and small amount of time available to me to keep my gigging harps in good repair, but have been unable to attend to this box of thirty-some harps of a my dim, distant past.
Finally, realizing this heap was not going to be addressed in the way I had envisioned, I packed them up and shipped them off to Arzajac, one of the many harmonica techs who are members of this forum.
I asked him to salvage what he thought would make some decent harps. A while later, I received back several very nicely redone harps. All tuned up, shined up, and very responsive. In some cases he even replaced the comb.
Now, instead of a heap of non-functional harps, I am well on the way to my second set of great harps. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants an economical solution to acquiring more good harps.
Select a tech who offers this service and send your bone yard off in the mail!

Smart move sending them to Andrew.
most players don't have the time or inclination to fix a bunch of broken harps.

You're right about that, Mark. It takes some time, and patience, and there is a learning curve, like with anything.
I have the inclination, but the time, and skill...
So, thank goodness for you, Andrew, and your ilk, who have put in the time, have the skill, and can transform old beaters into instruments that are fun to play.
You guys make them as good or better than many new instruments on the market, and relatively inexpensively, at that.
