The pricing page on the Mission website lists the "Tweed Pro" with 20 watts, fixed bias (whatever that means) and a Lil Buddy 10" speaker for a total of $849.99. Is this the best way to go?

Is the above spec'd amp loud enough for a typical jam? I have a VHT Special 6 that I like, but it is not loud enough for a jam. Would a speaker swap to a Lil Buddy make the VHT appreciably louder?

My goal is to be able to play to my local jam with my own amp, and not go through the PA.

Thank you for your help.

I would like to hear a few reviews on the Delta Sonic, has anyone been gigging with one?

John, yes, the DS PRO is loud enough for most jams. But a big caveat: Even my Bassman can be drowned out by a really obnoxious guitar player and drummer.

Yes again... Swapping a Lil Buddy speaker into your VHT amp will make it appreciably louder, punchier, and warmer. The DS PRO is louder still.

Here is a video of Nic Clark playing the DS PRO amp at the jam. It was not lined out to the PA.

Paul, I gig with one, but I admit I am a biased source.

I always line it out to the PA. If I want a bigger sound I use my Mission 32-20 amp. If I want a huge sound I use them both.

I am very seriously thinking about selling my Bassman RI amp.

There are two common ways to bias power tubes. Fixed bias and cathode biased.
With Fixed bias the amp will be somewhat louder and puncher with more cut. This methode also means that when you replace the power tubes, the bias must be readjusted by a tech. Fixed bias, which is actually adjustable, is the prefered methode for playing live, on stage.
Cathode bias is somewhat bluezier and more compressed with additional sag. Usually no need to rebias the amp when replaceing power tubes. This type of amp is great in the studio and will work live.
Now these statements are generalitys. There are all kinds of exceptions depending on the amp wattage the speaker used and the skill level of the user.
I am not familure with the amp in question but IMO a good 20W fixed bias amp will do fine in most jam situations. Put it on a stand or chair, learn how to control feedback and your in...BN

Barley, that was a very fine explanation of Fixed vs. Cathode bias, and the difference in sound.

Related question to the biasing....since I've only ever owned cath biased amps. If a fixed-bias amp is equipped with a bias adjustment pot, does that pot serve as a quick way to re-bias an amp after replacing power tubes?

Tim, that is exactly what it is for.

Thanks Rick, I am happy that I can return some of the knowlage that I have learned from others and discovered for myself. My hat is off to all the folks who share on the forums. Ya know, when a person passes on, I feel the greastest loss is the loss of knowlage that the person possesses.
No, I'm staying till the partys over...BN

I kinda thought so. Good thing to know considering I'm planning to build a fixed-bias amp here pretty soon.
