its not you, either he messed up the first line
or he was trying to sound black.
george smith was in that band with him
most likely it was his song. and that would be how he would sing it. personally, i would change it to something that made more sense.

lord i wish i had some pain believe me
but your love has left my heart

"Lord I wish I had and pain would leave me baby" or "pain relieve me baby"

Could do it this way:

"Lord I wish I had a pain reliever baby"
"Cus your love has already left my heart" ??

I hear: "Lord I wish the hurt and pain would leave me, baby"

It makes sense with the following lyric.

Best thing about blues is that the first line gets repeated. Ha!

Goldbrick, that makes perfect sense, but it sure sounds like he's singing " I had"

I hear it almost as Greg, but not quite:

Lord, I wish the howlin' pain would leave me baby....
or
Lord, I wish the hell and pain would leave me baby....

I strongly suggest, you take any of these fine suggestions and use them and DONT WORRY.

Lord know I change words alllllllll the time. And there's no reason not to change them as you see fit to express what you want to say.

Hey, this is fun! Thank a lot guys. English is not my first language so I tend to worry a bit too much about the authenticity. I know I should just make it up and sing something that I knida believe in but just curious to know what exactly that he was singing first.

My wife's british and she's an english teacher in a uni can never help me with the blues lyrics either!

I'm takin' Greg's, it makes sense. I could sing that and mean it. You've won some free booze in a tiny blues bar in BKK, Greg, if you'll ever come someday!
