Hi there,

New to this forum - first post. I have just bought a Thunderbird low C and I have a really annoying high-pitched tinkly sound on the 2 draw. Sounds like a fairy is ringing a microscopic bell somewhere.

I know it's not the reed hitting the case as I have put a piece of paper in between reed and case and it still sounds.

I can, of course, send it back but thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone knows what this is and maybe there is a quick fix.

Thanks!

Check the reed and make sure it's centered in the slot properly. There could also be a small burr on the reed slot. Hopefully some of the harp customisers will be along soon and have some other suggestions, just in case mine don't do the trick.

I second Kingley's diagnosis and suggestion for treatment. :)

I third the advice. It sounds like (metaphorically speaking, since there is no sound sample) it's either a reed off center or a burr. Probably off center.

Also make sure the reed at the rivet end is flush with the reed plate. If it is raised even the slightest, give the rivet a little tap with a hammer.
