indeed ...

my post was a response to Adam G's great talks

i thought it showed the 2 sided nature of blues things which Adam talks about

in this case the sad/happy bad/good nature of the blues

and i thought that players might be inspired to make some great blues

I've always been fascinated with the way blues deals with religion. Even if it's not even remotely historically accurate, I always loved the Robert Johnson at the Crossroads mythology. I've even got a funny (at least I think it is) retelling of 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' written from the Devil's point of view (and featuring harmonica instead of fiddle.)

There are some great threads on the topic buried in the forum, although it's possible they've been partially destroyed. You see at the bottom of the posting box the character limit of 5000 characters... when, there didn't used to be a limit, and when the hosting service imposed it they deleted posts longer than 5000 characters, including some of the deeper philosophical posts. :(

We were able to save some with the Wayback Machine, and they said they'd try to restore some of them.

we cannot go to far into the religion forest Nacoran
the King has decreed it be so - and that is fine

but Adam G's Blues talks give us some wonderful insight
and background to the blues and religion

as in many other areas of art it is a great source of
inspiration and as in this case the inspiration can be
whimsical as well as soulful

The trick with the forest Joe, is that it's easy to get lost in there. It's fine to talk about how religion has influenced music as long as it stays carefully on topic and as long as no one starts taking sticks off the trees and beating people over the head with their religion, or lack of religion, or mocking other people's beliefs. That's always the trick, and it's why the rule is there, and why we keep a really close eye on any thread that touches on the topic and are prone to locking them quickly when they get out of hand.

So, for instance, a thread on religious symbolism in the blues would be closely watched, but as long as everyone was on their best behavior, my understanding of the rules is that would be okay.
