I stopped in at a small mom & pop music shop on the way to my gig yesterday. Two amps caught my eye. One was a Silvertone 1474 Twin Twelve. The other has me stumped. It's a little 1950's job with a 10" alnico and all octal tubes. These are the only two shots I could get of it because I was in a bit of a hurry and the shopkeeper didn't seem too keen on me digging to deeply into it.

No brand, logo, or origin stamp that I could find. The markings on the control face look like Lectrolab to me, but the shopkeeper said another fella had come in a while back and thought it to be a Danelectro of some kind. I've been through all the usual reference pages for Lectrolab, Dano, Silvertone, Premier, and Valco. Nothing jumped out at me as a match.

Anyone ever seen one like this before? Any ideas?

How much is he asking? If he wants 100.00, it's a Univox. If he wants 800.00, it's a Gibson.

Could be a Dano or Masco. Did you get to try it?

One of these surfaced on the Weber board a while back, I think the verdict was it was an old Sound Projects/Lectrolab.

How much for the Silvertone Twin 12?

May be worth test driving in that store.

@Rick

He was asking $325 for it. I didn't have a chance to try it. It was a spur of the moment stop and I didn't bring a mic with me.

@Iceman

He wants five benjamins for the Silvertone. Still has its original footswitch. Normally I'd be interested, but 60W is just a little too stiff for my taste. If I played guitar, I'd be a lot more inclined.

Maybe. If I roll through Macomb again and it's still there, I'll go prepared next time. Iceman, did the reverb on yours work well? I've always heard iffy things about that jabberwocky little Dano reverb tank. I tried a Dano DS100 a couple years ago, and the tank had been removed from it altogether because it gone sour.

Well any spring tank will go boom if you bump it hard enough, but yeah, I think those Dano verbs had a piezo pickup system to it, so that'd prolly be worse.
