Hello - Aside from playing in Blues and Funk bands where I want the traditional gritty sound which I get from my Brown Biscuit, pre-amp and Bell & Howell setup, I also play in a couple bluegrass and acoustic groups. In these groups, I tend to play through the PA and looking for recommendations out there for mics in this set-up which will give me a full clean sound. Should I just go with the Standard 57?
Any thoughts out there appreciated. Thanks

Hi - do you intend to stand-mount this mic or will you still be hand holding it? ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

If you're playing off a stand then I'd say an SM57 or SM58 would be a good choice. If you're holding it then you might be better off with something like an Audix Fireball.

IMO, the SM58 sounds a bit distant compared to other mics. While I like it more than a 57 for that application, I find I end up eqing or boosting it more.
The AKG D5 is an affordable option, as is the Fireball. I like those more. If you have more money to spend, the Sennheiser 441D is great...or a ribbon mic. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website

clean sounding mics are far easier to acquire than gritty dirty mics.
the Audix Fireball is cheap, easily cupped, is great for hand wah wahs, and sometimes has a VC. IT is an XLR connector and the PA is definitely where you want to plug in a clean mic.
Chromaticblues 585 is a stick mic with a ball end. it predates the SM series but is still fairly clean sounding. $50 is a deal if money is a consideration. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

I play with GREGs 58, the 57 has a more midrange sound to it. Both are clean though
