I've just acquired an old Pignose 7-100, as everyone seems to love them. I agree it's a nice sound and I dig the style - all those discrete components.
Anyway, it hisses - on battery this is, not from the mains. In terms of signal-to-noise it's ok for playing in a room but you couldn't record using it.
So, is this normal for the 7-100. Is it part of it's charm - or should it be roughly silent with input no signal like a proper amp, and I have a broken one?

I had a girlfriend who should have been called hissy pignose.
But really- did you try changing the battery or the mic cord. One I had was pretty quiet unless gain was turned up too high

Goldbrick. Ha! I was thinking a prog-rock band from Solihull.
Yes, fresh batteries and lead is good. Otherwise the sound is fine.

The 7-100 should be very quiet. I've only heard noise when using the AC wall plug adapter. Therefore, i only played it w/ batteries.
Hissy Pignose? Heh, heh, :-) i met her. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

MP - Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. I asked Pignose and they sell a board replacement, but not distributed in the UK, that's a familiar story. Fortunately the person I bought it off will take it back, and I'll put the money towards new one.
