That's just fantastic! I'm awed! Where is this from? Do you know what the piece was? What harps and tunings? Tell Boris that was just fantastic!!!

Could someone fix the forum so that the The Russian members can access it, please?

Boris is a true musical genius, and it's just really great to see other highly trained musicians respecting his talent enough to give him the spotlight. Bravo!

Jim, I started to think that Boris was being blocked through the forums IP filtering. I do think that's awful.

This is the second awesome thing I've seen from Boris in two months (the vacuum cleaner ad was REALLY cool).

It's quite an accomplishment to play harmonica as lead instrument over an orchestra and he did it with amplification, octave effects, delay. He really showed the power and versatility of this instrument. It's not necessarily blues harp, but it is MODERN harp!

I hope this thread gets lots of comments. This is first rate playing. Don't let me down.

Fantastic. I love Boris' playing. To me, he has the technique and skill of a classical player with the soul and chops of a jazz man. Wonderful stuff. Thanks for posting.

Some interesting stuff. I really like the fact that Boris plays in more avant garde settings than many harp players do. He certainly comes up with some very interesting approaches to new musical ideas.

The playing blues harp with an orchestra thing was first done of course by Corky Siegel when he was with the Siegel Schwall Band (at least to my knowledge anyway). Since then he has pursued those ideas further. Anyone interested in this kind of thing should check out the Chamber Blues album by Corky Siegel. Here's some of Corky with his Chamber Blues outfit.

Kingley, I am a fan of Siegel Schwall and didn't realize that Corky had done this. I'm not surprised that other diatonic players have played with an orchestra.

As you also pointed out, Boris takes this a few steps further. A phrase that came to me last night was "Ballsy yet reserved"

Ridge - Yeah they did it way back in 1966 apparently. They did a thing called "Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony". This was recorded in 1971.

This is incredibly unique, really a remarkable composition, dynamically executed by a truly innovative player. Boris the instrument sings in ways I never thought possible; I never heard before- like in the beginning, the quick stutter effect that slowly breaks down the end of the phrase, it mimics the violins perfectly. the whole piece is great, I especially enjoyed the beginning- very avant garde. Thank you for sharing.
