One of my all time favorite blues harmonica performances. Listen to this song, if you've not heard it before.
"Can't Sleep For Worrying" is from the Jimmy Rogers' album Ludella, recorded in 1990 at Antones in Austin.
Half live, half studio. Kim wilson on harp throughout. This song is live, though its perfection says "studio". Kim Wilson is at his peak; a modern-day harp player performing old school blues with one of the greats from an earlier era.
In this song, Kim masterfully hits bent notes totally on pitch. He plays all over the song without stepping on the vocal. He plays notes that fit. His tone is that classic tone most of us are striving for. His timing is impeccable.
But, forget all that. He and Jimmy Rogers, on this night, on this stage, were "in the zone". That magical zone that keeps us playing, no matter what else is happening in our lives.
Cheers,

Ludella is a superb album. It's one that I listen to a lot. There isn't a weak track on it and Kim's harp playing on it is simply top notch.

It's a great song for sure! I like Kim Wilson and definitely feel he is arguably one of the greatest harp players ever to play the instrument.
However, (here comes the unforgivable harmonica blasphemy) I feel that he gets a "free pass" on pretty much anything he plays as if it is "music from the gods" that is unparalleled and unmatched by any other harp player.
If somebody played this song unbeknownst who the recording artist was to me, I would simply believe it to be a great tune played by a very proficient harp player. As far as one of the best harp songs to date......? Just my 2 cents

The actual title is Can't Keep From worrying and while I was gigging with Jimmy Rogers, this was one of my favorite tunes with him. One thing Kim does that doesn't annoy vocalists when he's backing them is that, unlike the way most harp players tend to do play, he plays softer under the vocals and only when he does comping fills or solos is when the breath volume force steps up a bit and most players tend to play one way only, and that's full, hard breath force regardless of what's happening and that's a huge reason why many vocalists feel harp is stepping all over them but too many players are too thick headed to understand that.
The guitar intro that Jimmy plays here, on the original Chess studio recording (which finally got released in 1977), that was orginally played by Otis Spann on piano. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

kim was sitting in with a band last week he sets up his amp, unzips his mic bag he grabbed the wrong case he had a choice between 2 vocal mic's an an ev mic of some sort which he used for the entire show the lesser of three evils lol he still sounded great! i had a chance to be a hero but i had just taken all my gear out of the car would of been great to hear him play with one of my micraphones.
the day before i saw what looked to be the same mic. at the swap meet for $75.00 i thought to myself ...that looks like a nice harp mic. i just do not need another mic. ---------- third times a charm!
