I have a problem with my space for practice... With two little kids in house I dont know is it more difficult to play harp when they are awake or when they sleep.
So I practice in my car.
Where is your woodshed? Do you have a room, garage, car, front porch...?

The car is a good place because you have a CD player handy for backing tracks and such. The downside is it's difficult to mix cocktails in the car. I am allowed to practice harp, unamplified, down my basement (it's just my wife and me) when the TV is also on. For trombone and trumpet, I must go into the garage, close the main door, go into an 8 X 12 insulated office in the back, close that door, turn on the air condtioner and put a mute in the bell(s). Obviously, in the winter you will find it necessary to run the heater in the car and hence you must run the engine, albeit intermittently. Try to avoid asphyxiation.

I play a lot late at night while walking my dogs. They howl when I play in the house but never out walking.

When I first started I made a tent in my kitchen out of vinyl air mattresses and ran a duct from the AC into it , LOL! Had that set up for about a year. Now I practice in a walkin storage closet. That works great too cause I don't wake the kids and the wife don't have to hear me all night. I have a very understanding/patient wife :)

Tom, I should have gone for a walk with you and played some last week. We were in Tampa for a big woodturning symposium. The rain was a bit of a mess, though. Could have bought my combs in person, too........Next time.

I play in the van when I'm on the road-its how I learned to play years ago. I have a big shop, and sometimes sit on the porch. I try not to play too much in the house since practice is not always very musical, but jut the other day my wife said "I love hearing you play again". She's going to visit our daughter for a few days tomorrow, so I'll crank up an amp and scare the cat.

Down in the basement. My amps are down there, recording equipment, PA, etc.

I live alone in an apartment, so my woodshed, unamplified, is my living room or my bedroom (I don't play in the bathroom!) I only play amplified usually if I've got the guys over to jam or if I'm recording something that needs distortion, and only at reasonable hours. Occasionally I house/cat sit for my mother when she heads out of town (she just retired so she won't be travelling for the State anymore). I can play as loud as I want up there. The nearest neighbor is at least 100 feet away and at least one of the cats seems to be a harp fan. I never thought to take my amp up there.

Like Nate I also live alone so usually practice most in my living room. I also usually practice acoustic and only use an amp very rarely at home. When I do play amped at home, my current amp is a Harp Attack into my hi-fi. It gives a surprisingly good sound. I record most practice sessions on my laptop.

In the kitchen while cooking, my practice harps are stacked next to cd player on the worktop (this annoys my wife)

I live in the country. Lately I've been practicing in the morning in my office at the house. My wife leaves an hour or so before I have to so I can crank it up. But sometimes she likes to hear me play. All depends on her. Seems to be a common theme here :-)

One thing I've noticed. Woodsheds not only exist in the 'where' they can also exist in the 'when'.

Mine is often in the kitchen on a Friday night when my wife is at camera club.

Anywhere on my property almost any time. I live on a 1/4 acre lot which is double the normal plot size around here and it is is mostly lawn and garden. I am on disability so I have anywhere from 10-12 hours a day by myself while my fiance is at work. If she is hope I also have a detached laundry room/work room where I can go if necessary or I can just go somewhere outside around the house.

I started playing when I went on paternal leave 2011. I played from ten to twelve or one in the car. I later found that I could play in the buildings trolley room. All concrete and neighbouring only the garbage room it was perfect for some solitude. In some of my YouTube videos you can see that some people stored their snow shovels there too.

My wife & I moved into a nice 2 story house last year. 3 times the size of our little flat of prior. Now I have an actual music room. Still though, one of my favorite places to woodshed is on "The River walk". It's a paved walk way that runs on the top of the dike system in my town. There's just something about playing blues harp next to the river. Passers by seem to enjoy it too.

Much like the OP here.... I have a wife and two little kids at home. The kids were raised around my wife and I playing a lot of music though (I also play guitar and mandolin, and the wife plays guitar).

We have a small office off of our bedroom which houses all the amps and instruments, as well as a computer. We have a little bit of recording gear in there as well. I can usually play while everyone is watching TV, or if the wife is at work and its just me and the kids, I can play while the little ones nap.

Interesting...no one actually uses a Woodshed ;-

Kids have all left now so I've claimed a bedroom as my space.Amps ,stereo and a small workdesk for tuning harps etc.

And instead of the Pop star posters that were on the wall I have ones of Muddy and the Wolf.

Don't forget the street. Play that song for the 501st time and get a different reaction and maybe some bucks in the tip jar...

Yep the bus stop outside the salvos welfare centre is where I do a lot. Struggling with some new riffs last night, in the cold and dark, I gave it up and jammed on Born in Chicago instead,Halfway into the butterfield solo, I hear applause break out...no money, but there was a guy smoking on his balcony on the first floor of the building across the street...it's not the best spot but its where I go.
Mainly just at home, in the kitchen. my girl is amazingly tolerant about this. I don't use the amp at home though, unless I'm alone.

the pedestrian subways in London are great...no amp needed....if the storm drains in my town were a little taller I would use them...

I forgot to mention that at my last job there was a 100 yard or so long tunnel that went under a railway overpass near my work. I would sometimes go there on my lunch break and play a bit. It made for an awesome sound and it was fun to play some train chugs and such as a train came by.

It was a car, but Budzero's post just described my mid-twenties. Living in Boston area now, commuting by train, and in a small apartment, my practice time has dwindled. I catch 5-min at a time around the apt. Thankfully, the group I'm playing with rehearses regularly or my skills would be eroding even faster. I'm hoping to dedicate some space once we return to house-living.

You remember your 20's? Clearly you weren't giving it your best effort.

I use a large closet in the basement that previous owner made as a dark room, but most of my scales and routine practice gets done in the car on daily commutes.
