I'm trying to fix a 520D that cuts in and out. And am wondering if anyone can please help me figure out my next step?
I opened the top of the mic & everything looks pretty solid. And then I took the hex screw out and tried to pull on the cable. But, I can't seem to get the cable nor the spring around it to budge. Looking on the inside of the case, it looks like the wires that make up the cable go through a piece of plastic or rubber.
I've pulled on the spring around the cable and it doesn't move from its place.
Thanks for any help or pointers!

i think they still put some sort of epoxy in there to secure the hard wiring. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

Have you looked at the 1/4" jack end of things? The solder joints inside a jack can fail sometimes due to strain or if they were not well soldered in the first place. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

Sorry Geez, I missed the hand held mic part.
If you have the means, send it to Greg for a Switchcraft connector and a transformer mod. it's well worth the investment and it will get done right!
If you insist on doing it yourself remove it from the stand assuming it's a push to talk type stand? you can remove the existing wiring and install any decent guitar cable into the mic as long as you have the spring strain relief to secure the cable. I don't remember if the push to talk mics have them, it's been a few years since I took one apart.
You can use hot glue to secure cable inside shell after you've attached it to the spring. I make my own strain relief for the inside of the mic, but hot glue works pretty well. (the industrial type)
They can sometimes be a PIA to take apart especially the brass plug.
If your in the US and need a spring for the cable, let me know, I may have one and I'll give it to you.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions!
I'll look more closely at the 1/4" end jack, but the noise comes from moving the cable up by the mic.
I'll see if the epoxy might "pop" out easily, but if I recall correctly, it's in there tightly.
Yeah, the PIA part is what I'm focused on right now. I may damage the spring in taking it apart, so very well may be back to see if you still have an extra spring-- thanks for the kind offer!
I haven't looked at the FAQ yet, but will poke around here & find Greg to see about these upgrades-- they sound like a step in the right direction, for sure.
Thanks again, everyone!
