"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were ?" I still ride a short board surfing. I'm 61 . Saw a lot of great bands when concert show tickets were $ 2.00
I play in two bands (one more Americana/Roots/Country – One more blues/jazz orientated I guess), have some regular session work too. Not so much blues, although I do sometimes go to play at the jams around here. There's lots of young and very talented musicians coming up on the scene.
cool! i was body surfing pipeline not too long ago and i remember my brother making Mini Guns out of long boards when the gun was invented. Lopez was the guy to watch in those days. is David Nuuiwa (sp) still living in CA? ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

@ MP. Wow ! 57 yrs and you're body womping pipe w/o getting stuffed into a reef crevice. That's awesome. Yup , Lopez is still ( IMO ) king of pipe. I think David Nuuhiwa lives in the San Diego area and garners BIG bucks for longboards that he shapes. BTW, I have some harps that need dialing in and have been considering you to do the work. Being a fellow "waterman" seals my considerations. How's your work log looking for a few Crossovers ?
64 and I also started at 43. Wished I started earlier. My brain just doesn't retain things like it used to. But if I started earlier,I'd probably be dead from alcohol or drugs. :>)
I'll be 56 next month. I took up the harp to add to my vocals when I was 50. I took up guitar last year. Never stop growing... ---------- snakes in Snohomish
hey messy! i've done Pipeline but not Pipeline proper lately, just a little to the left. (Too many boards.) Place called Gums cuz a guy found some false teeth there once. there are at least three breaks right in front of Ehukai Beach park n if they have names i don't know them.
Sure, i'll do your Crossovers. Best MB type Hohner yet. My Fav. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

Ha, great thread. Just turned 60 in June. I told a young woman it was my birthday and all she wanted to know was that since I was so old had I ever seen the Grateful Dead live. I had, many times. She was envious.
And Happy Birthday to harpwrench from a fellow Missourian, though I'm in Santa Fe now :-)
I,m 61 and saw the Grateful Dead many a time-first time was at Woodstock-most memorable was at Englishtown speedway with the New Riders. Been playing drums since I was a kid. Wanted to play something a little more portable but still rhythmic. Harp seemed like a good choice.
Started harp just about 2 years ago-began on a terrible Hohner Ace-almost gave up til a dude at a gig said try a Lee Oskar- and then I realized it wasnt all my fault that it sounded so bad. Still got a warm spot for the Oskars but lately Delta Frosts and Suzuki Bluesmasters have been more to my ear
I'm 34. I've been playing blues guitar since my teens and just took up slide in the last few years. I learned Swanee River on an old Marine Band as a boy (who knows where that thing is), and when I picked up a cheap Bluesband this year I remembered how to play it.
I just got back from picking up a Special 20, and am looking forward to digging in.
65, been playing harp since I was 10 and guitar since 16. I've been playing the same old crap over and over for 55 years. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.
I'm 49 and I don't care about commercial, there will always be music. Music as product is one aspect of the scene, and it's not the most interesting IMHO. Music is a social lubricant, it's in our brains and we won't breed it out very quickly. It's probable music is the origin of language. Folk music isn't gonna disappear in a hurry. Commerce is always playing catch up; well, almost always. I play a lot of pop blues, but these days that stuff is so unhip it's basically folk music.. ----------
One of my strongest students is in his early 50's. He started with me in his early 40's and practiced his behind off. He gigs much more than I do and is sponsored by beer companies, has been on national TV countless times, etc. Check out Jose Ruiz for some really unusual diatonic and chromatic.
OK, I'll hijack later. I'm 54. Got my first harp at Christmas when I was 5. Pretty much every grandkid did. Got one each Christmas until well into my teens. By then I was buying them on my own.
Now the hijack. Messy V, do you actually live in Ventura? I lived there for a decade when I was working out in the SB Channel. My son still does. If you're around, I'll be headed to a SoCal job for a few weeks commencing roughly 1Aug.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
Edited to add: David Nuuhiwa lives in Orange County. Lopez left HI and has been living and snowboarding in Bend, Oregon for the recent past.

don't know older Lopez personally. his brother Kit still surfs, calls people kooks, and lives in Lopez family home in Aina Haina on Oahus south shore. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.
