I am sure i will get this question answered very quickly. I have a EV 630 which on the tag is stamped IMP 250. Is this a Hi or Lo Z mic.

The Electro-Voice Model 630 can be either high or low impedance, depending on the cable connection:

The 250 is hi or lo z. I've never seen a split connector on any 630. I've owned and modded over a dozen. The wires are usually soldered to the pins. You need to ck the ohm reading at the pins or the 1/4" jack. if its not hi z and you dont have the split connector, remove the on off switch and there should be a spare wire in there with tape on it that's not connected to anything. Thats the hi z wire off the transformer. You will have to swap it with the low z wire going to the pin.

Count me in on the EV630 fan group. Years ago I bought several on eBay inexpensively. I have 3 working 630s (and an empty shell from a dead eBay buy).
One 630 is labeled high-z but had messed up threads, so I put in a 1/4" jack. I have a guitar cable with a built in volume control I use with it.
One is a Phillips version of the 630 that is high-z with a working cable that I shortened to a pigtail.
The third is an EV labeled IMP 250 and is set up for low-z. The cable on this one recently failed (shorting out in the connector due to a previous bad repair by someone) and I am repairing it. I will use a new XLR cable replacing one end with the old EV 3 way connector. The insulation in the old cable has deteriorated. I will just wire it the way it was before.
The mic and cable have 3 way connectors, not 4 like the above diagram. It does not fold open like the diagram. I will just wire it with new wire for low-z again, since I have the 2 other high-z mics.
The 630 is easy to hold due to it having a smaller diameter. It does distort some, though not at the level of a CM or CR. It is great with chromatic. ----------

I like my 630 too. Just need to come up with some kind of v/c for it. ----------
