This is the best blues tune I've heard for ages, love it. I hadn't heard of Taj Mahal before. The song sounds very original, I guess because he has lots of influences from other genres.

Great tune to play on harp, too.

Haha, I thought it might be that one! One of my very favourite records. But I don't play it. Too hard to sing for me. Maybe I should try.

Love that tune, one of three Sleepy John Estes tunes on Taj Mahals first album. Then my favorite Taj Mahal penned song,"She Caught The Katy" was on his next album. The man is an icon of the blues and a national treasure!

Old double album "Giant Steps" "The Ol' Folks Back Home" blew my mind 30 years ago and still blows it today. Fantastic music. One is electric, the other acoustic.

I loved his version of "Don't call us, we'll call you".

i've played with Taj Mahal! We did Midnight Hour and Divin' Duck Blues. He loved the Juke box and pinball machine in a bar near the University of Hawaii. He'd see me and try to knock me off my bar stool and we'd talk shop. Friendly chap. He has a house and children on an outer island but often visits Honolulu.

@cyclodan - I had no idea he didn't write Leaving Trunk. Just assumed so. And on the other hand I assumed She Caught The Katy was a cover!

@MP - cool story! I love hearing stuff like that on this forum.
