This is definitely the Blues, but it ain't the same old Blues. There isn't a twelve bar, a shuffle, or an AAB in sight here. In fact, the blues scale isn't even the main scale I'm hearing (I hear quite a bit of major pentatonic in here). This is raw, acoustic music without a hint of a synthesizer or a looper or a beatboxer or whatever. This is just a young back man with an unquestionable pedigree in the Blues playing the music he wants to make. And to my ears, this is some damn fine music.

So, to me, if this ain't the epitome of Modern Blues, then I don't think such a thing exists...

Cedric plays some nice stuff. I don't think I'd really classify it as "modern blues" though. I hear a lot of his grandfather in the stuff that Cedric plays. To me it's just good old country blues.

Great stuff! Sure it's not as 'modern' as some other contemporary stuff..but lightly pushes (and merges together) the boundaries of a few substyles of the genre. Cedric Burnside blues.......
