Yes, obtained one of these recently and have been using at gigs.

As Greg says in his, very informative, paper on mics the sound breaks up very nicely when you cup well and though there is no volume pot you can back off.

It is pretty heavy, but lighter than my old green bullet, so I have left it on the stand.

I will have to get an impedance switch to go through the amp, but just turning up and going through the pa with this excellent mic is good to go.

The 57 really is a great great mic for harp but the weight/balance and no volume control, yeah, we need a solution for that!
Love mine.

I love mine too. Play harp and do vocals. One stop shopping. Although, I would like to get one of Greg's Ultimate 57 mics with a Bulletizer. Volume controlled issue resolved.

An Ultimate 57 solves both - volume control AND weight/balance.

I have an SM57, and while it is not my preferred mic for blues harp, it is fantastic for mic'ing up amps on stage.

Greg, do you sell those plug in volume pots for the 57 as you illustrated?

Whilst I love the sound and the volume control AND weight/balance of Greg's Ultimate 57. The one big issue I have with all SM57s is the noise from the rotating grill cover.... I keep meaning to try Håkan's bicycle inner-tube solution.

Libertad,

I took foam from a windscreen and used a small tool (a toothpick would have worked) to push it up in the gap between the mic and grill. I think it took three pieces to get around it.

The Ultimate SM57 is my favorite mic. It responds well to cupping and works with just about any rig. The frequency response creates a much bassier and fuller sound than any bullet I've tried. I love that it doesn't sound boxy.

This helps the muscles from cramping up cupping the 57, using rubber tape.

Greg, I hope it was ok to call the video "budget bulletizer"

I played in a pick up gig the other day with a saxophone player who also played some harp. When he played harmonica, it was through my Ultimate 57 with a bulletizer.

At the end of the gig, he was offering to buy the mic.

The SM57 with the Bulletizer from Greg is freaking awesome, by the way...

Ultimate 57 is the utlimate way to go. I use mine with and without the Bulletizer.

@harmonicanick - YES, I sell those XLR volume controls -they're on the XLR Volume Control page on my site. If that's all you need you can order them from the Ordering and Pricing page.

@Libertad - many people find that completely blocking that vent ring on an SM57 (as will happen with tape or an o-ring/inner tube) will change its tone, and not necessarily for the better. Shoving some tiny pieces of foam up under the grill as HarpNinja suggested is a much better solution. (In case you Bulletizer owners are wondering, the Bulletizer leaves a small gap open so that vent can breathe.)

@Buzadero: Flagrant and unabashed. Absolutely! But it makes the point, don't it?

You won't get an argument from me. I'm a firm believer that if you're the best, don't be self-conscious about it.

Hawkeye what sort of tape is that please?

Buzadero ... it's a self vulcanizing rubber tape ... no adhesive ...
In the vid I just roll up two layers to show the process ... a thicker ring makes it even easier to hold ... And like Greg mentioned as I also did in the vid, don't cover the vents.

HawkeyeKane ... thanks for embedding
