I have had my eye on a Shure 55sh mic for a while now but still have'nt made the plunge due to the cost, last night i saw one on Ebay looking like it might go unoticed and sell for it's reserve of £45.00 but on closer inspection realized that the mic is in fact not a Shure one but made by John Hornby Skewes, it is a JHS GM-55, does anyone know anything about this Mic with regard to build quality and sound?

Personally I'd stick with the Shure. I believe that the modern Shure 55SH mics have the exact same element in them as the SM58. So unless you're buying it purely for the cosmetic look, you'll probably get an SM58 a lot cheaper.

Geordie, if you want a 55SH look, Nady makes the PCM-200, and it runs for half of what the 55SH Series II goes for.

Nady PCM-200 Classic Dynamic Mic

I've used one for vocals before and thought the sound quality from it was pretty darn good. I own the condenser version of this mic, and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I have a limited number of brand new Samson Q7 mics - a very good quality vocal mic that trades for about $89 each on the inter web. I will sell them for $59 each plus shipping. Contact me by email if interested.

Thanks Greg but I'm after a Retro look, but I dare say you could get some takers at that price!
