That's a tough one man. Your pick of the litter amongst a lot of tasty choices.
You probably couldn't go wrong with a champ or Masco circuit. If it were me, a Bassman circuit would be at the top of my list. Amps like Kalamazoos and VHTs are easily found and at affordable prices. If you're going to invest in a custom job, go for something with power and good harp tone. If the guy you're talking to is as good as you think he is, hand him a Danelectro commando schematic and see what he says. ----------
um, I would not trust some guy I just met a few days ago -- who claims he can solder and read schematics -- to build me anything.
I suggest you buy a Kalamazoo from Greg or a new VHT Special 6 Combo and be done with it. It will probably be cheaper and will almost certainly perform better.
Hi, rogonzab, I started out like you a couple of years ago wanting to build a champ at first but then moved on to Lonewolf's 6l6SE thaught I'd consult somebody knowledgeable before I get my hand on it so I contacted Mark(5f6h) for his advice and ended up building one of his design amp as my first build! You can see detail in this thread.
I've found the amp to be useful so far, I've used it in a few different situations from a hole-in-the-wall bar to a mid sized one to outdoor on stage against twin reverb and a 45 watts marshall and I got no problem at all.
I've made some change after the day I started the thread, it's now back to 1*10 with some other minor tweaks and now I think I'm pretty much done with it or maybe change the speaker one more time and that'll be it.
Rick Davis, I live in Chile, and the shipping cost are way to expensive to me right now. I hope some day save enough to buy a Kalamazoo from Greg. That is way I am so excited to build a clon of one of those amps, because over here are only seen on YT.
HawkeyeKane, LOL I will send him a picture, that would be an awesome amp!
puri, thxs! that is definitely an option! how much watts is it?

@rogonzab, probably 12-15(6v6s PP)? To be honest it's what I care the least about this amp. it's loud enough for most places I play and it has line out for a bigger venue, with a proper placement on stage it can easily be heard.
"I live in Chile, and the shipping cost are way to expensive to me right now. I hope some day save enough to buy a Kalamazoo from Greg. That is way I am so excited to build a clon of one of those amps, because over here are only seen on YT." - same here in BKK Thailand, that's why I build mine.

The cabinet is at least as important and I'd use an old suitcase before I killed the schematic with something overbuilt. They have to breathe. I bet your schematic guy isn't thinking about this. Ask him, what are the variables that determine a good harp amp. Most people would list the cabinet somewhere after #10 on a top 10 list of important. More isn't better. There's some great threads on this in the archives.

Jared_SA, yes is hard to decide wich one, thats why, as Rick and Littoral suggest, I am not going to rush on this, I am going to do a good research. Maybe we can chat about this since that we are doing the same?
My email is username at gmail.
KingBiscuit, yes a Kalamazoo would be lovely, but a harp amp especialy designed is very nice too.
