Yes! I like it! Thank you, Grey Owl! Some sort of simplicity with melodic way of playing! Don Les, Deb, Michel Herblin... looks like jazz harmonica invasion on MBH :) ---------- my music
Is anyone familiar with the up's and down's of life in harmonica world, then take a tip from Michel and use this to your advantage and take up the YoYo.
Here is the very same Michel Herblin setting a world record for the longest yoyo! I like the way he utilises the high and low end of the instrument:)
Michel showed up at SPAH in around 93 when the Hohner World Championships were held in Detroit for that one year. I was sitting at the bar w/a few of the well known guys when he walked in. He cut quite a presence...very tall, long blond hair, slender. We gave him a hello and asked him who he was.
I'll always remember his answer "I am Michel Herblin and I have come to win" with a typical French superior attitude tone to his voice.
We thought "Who is this yahoo?".
HOWEVER, after spending time with him at the convention and hearing him play (he did take 1st place), I really loved the guy. Even though he has the proud French attitude, he was actually quite charming - especially when it came to talking music and harmonica.
He gave me a tape of a rough cut of his first CD and then sent me the final CD from France...excellent playing. The background to the yo yo video comes from this project.
I'm sorry I lost touch with him over the years. ---------- The Iceman
Michel Herblin's last SPAH appearance was in 1991, not '93. Twenty years later, he finally has a new CD out - and he is coming to the 2013 SPAH convention, where he is doing an afternoon show with jazz piano accompaniment. ---------- Winslow

Nice story Iceman. You've got to admire that Gallic confidence, but well founded in his case I would say!
Wow that's a good catch Winslow, I'd love to see that.
I have been in communication with Michel occasionally and found him to be a thouroughly nice guy and very supportive.
I was introduced to his playing by Shoulders on this forum and have been keen to explore his style and have the two CD's he is credited with, the latest being 'Golden Melodies' - which is excellent.
Here is my attempt at snippets of a couple of his songs:)
Great playing, Grey Owl! I did not know about Michael Herblin before but now his CD's are must have for me. I like this french taste in his playing I think Milteau has the same. ---------- my music
I really like both players. 'Golden Melodies' is the best Herblin CD to get. Some tracks on his first CD appear also on Golden Melodies and have a better production.
Interesting... Fred Yonnet played two of Michael's tunes (Eden Legrand and Art Space) Grey Owl, I searched over internet for copies of Michael CD's - no result. :( Thank you for recommendations. I will continue my search :) Thank you ---------- my music
:) Wheel try HERE where you will see his contact email(michel@herblin.com) for the 'Golden Melodies' CD.
I remember him saying he could send me both the Golden Melodies and Matins aux Pommes CD's for around 30 euros. Matins Aux Pommes being a homemade CD, so you could ask him about this if you want both albums.
Winslow sayeth: "Twenty years later, Michel finally has a new CD out - and he is coming to the 2013 SPAH convention, where he is doing an afternoon show with jazz piano accompaniment."
This alone would be worth attending SPAH! ---------- The Iceman
