I think I may have asked this before, but, hey, I turned 60 last month, so I can't be expected to remember anything. I acquired Weber P10Q clone alnico speaker some time back. I won an ebay auction for a Weber P12Q clone, but was sent this instead. Poster made good on auction, sent me a vintage P12Q and told me to keep the Weber. Anyway, it is 16 ohm. Where can I use a 16 ohm speaker? I have several amps that use 10" speakers.

It'll all depend on your amp's output impedance. Are any of your amps equipped with multiple external speaker jacks of different ohm ratings? Any amp heads like that maybe?

Ok, say my amp currently has an 8 ohm or even a 4 ohm speaker. What differences will I hear with the 16 ohm speaker?

The most common use of 16 ohm speakers is to use 2 of them in parallel - which results in an 8 ohm impedance, which in turn is the most common output impedance for amps.

Usually going UP in impedance from the rated output won't hurt anything but you may lose a little power. Using a 4 ohm speaker on a 16 ohm output is could damage an amp.

No matter how many times I read it in print on this forum.....I can never get that "up/down" rule straight in my head Greg.

Greg is on the money, as usual.

The Epiphone Valve Jr amp heads were 16 ohms, if you have any of those little guys in your amp pile...

Another little amp head that I've found somewhat useful for harp is the Blackheart Little Giant. Same tubes as the EVJ, with a few advantages....3-band EQ, triode/pentode power attenuator, and 5 speaker jacks. 2 X 4-ohm, 2 X 8-ohm, and 1 X 16-ohm. They're getting harder to find now though.
