Yes! How refreshing to hear some one doing something creative, mixing musics, crossing boundaries, stretching possibilities, exploring connections. I applaud you for the courage to leap! Plus, I happen to like Indian music, so this particular combo works for me. Hey, how about harp and whale calls? Anyway, thanks for posting.
Sorry. I'm completely serious. About all of it. I just think harp and whale songs could be another interesting experiment. I truly enjoyed your post. No sarcasm intended. I was thinking of the stuff the Paul Winter Consort was doing back in the day.
Bless yer heart. I want to check out that Paul Winter stuff now. The idea of harp with Tanpura came from noticing a lot of Mississippi blues had that repeating drone heavy e string thing happening, so I thought of using a drone instrument (but not didgeridoo or bagpipes!!!!). Anyhow thanks again, Tom
This is very cool. I love to hear someone doing something different with the harp (you know, treating it like a real instrument instead of a one trick pony)
sounds like electronic tanpura. i think real tanpura (canned heat on the road again) sounds better. you could try this with fuzz bass one handed in a DADG with a D-d drone roll or a 1-4-5 in D, and play harp with your left hand into a mic. ive wanted a highlander harmonica to play along with a real tanpura. to me it sounds like a close approximation of an indian tuned harmonium.
