Movin to Cali soon and just don't wanna waist anytime. I would love to get in a band with some cats or get together with some harp players locally etc.. I play very authentic blues guitar too so any harp get togethers that need some guitar let me know. I also play old school drums. Anyways my in-laws live in La Mesa and we are trying to move within a couple hrs or so of them. I am wondering about maybe some cool areas to live as far as younger crowd or blues crowd at all. If anyone could help me out with the go to places to jam, or any players around to jam with. Any cool music shops or etc.... Fell free to send any good info my way cause I will be needing it.

I'm about 3 hrs north of La Mesa. I'd be glad to store any of that vintage gear fer ya. :) You're in the San Diego area if you stay in La Mesa. Ron of "Rockin Rons Music for Less" might be able to help you hook up with some other musiciansin the area . email him at his website. So Cal is full of catz that play. If you make it up my way (to drop off that gear for storage :) ) there's a few musicans around.

I live about 12 miles from La Mesa. In nearby El Cajon at the Downtown Cafe, there is a good Blues Jam Sundays at 3:00pm.
The Adams Avenue area a bit further west is an interesting neighborhood with coffee shops with open mike nights and an annual street music festival. Not too far away is Balboa park with its museums, youth symphony, youth ballet, buskers, photographers doing fashion shoots, and live organ concerts on weekends.
Some of the younger folks I work with live in Hillcrest, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and North Park all of these areas have an active night life.

Hey Bigtone, where is it you live now?
'cause I want to move there so I can play with those guys in your band (the ones you recorded the soundcloud clips with). :)

Thanks for that info STME58 we will have to get together and jam sometime when I arrive. I will be looking into those places. We are just trying to find a more affordable place to live out there.
@cliffy I live in Knoxville now. Both the drummers on those tracks are moving one to San Fran and the other is going to China for 6 months to play jazz. And the bass player is moving sometime too don't know when though.

Oh, now you mention affordable, that's no problem in So Cal, as long as your income is large! ;-)
I have lived in So Cal a long time. If you want to chat with someone who has bought a few properties in the area over the years, contact me at

I keep trying to get out to hang out in Southern Cali. My dad lives in El Cajon, but every time I go out to visit he takes us on some big adventure (this last time it was a trip up to the Red Woods in his RV).
