just acquired a stock Vintage Princeton Reverb. Would like to know how to make the tube configuration harp-friendly without any modification...all it needs is a couple tubes.. Is there a suggestion for the tubes or should I get the original stock? thanks in advance for any help

Depends.....Blackface? Silverface?
I've found from the PR's I've played through that the standard 3 X 12AX7, 1 X 12AT7 complement is a good setup. But some folks like lower gain in their preamp. If you count yourself among them try a 12AY7 or 5751. ----------

Yeah, I have a silver face, I changed the speaker to a weber 10A125O and it took that real bright edge off and gave it a little more depth, but I haven't messed with it otherwise. I like it. I mean, It could conceivably stand some changes as I am running bass dimed, treble nil and I don't like the reverb so I use a delay pedal with it, but its a cool little guitar amp as it is and sounds great for harp on that setting. ----------

I like mine with Lone Wolf Harp Tone Plus in front. (Can't recall if changed tube type -- sure seems like there was just a thread on this.) Checked: yes, a nice 12AY7 is in V1.

Fender Princeton Reverbs are brilliant amps. Best amp I've ever used for harp. The blackface are the best, but the silverface are good too. Just change the preamp valve in V1 for a 12AY7 and you'll be good to go. Keep the treble off, bass up high and like SuperBee says, I wouldn't use the reverb myself either. They pretty much like any mics too, my favourite is a bullet with a good CM in it. A 545 or a crystal work well with the Princeton Reverb though too.

My favorite Princeton amp for harp is the black face non-reverb Princeton. It has less gain and a slightly darker tone to my ear. Big Walter used that amp.

My nextdoor neighbor has a roots rock band that his father plays dobro and lap steel in. A while back, he called me and asked for any recommendations I might have for a smaller tube amp that'd be a good application for both those instruments. I gave him a few ideas. Bout three weeks later, he showed up to the recording studio I was laying tracks at with the amp he bought. A one-owner, all original, '66 Princeton Reverb. I told him he made a damn good choice for his instruments, and conveyed my distinct sense of envy. He let me blow through it that night. It was heavenly. ----------

The S/S Princeton Chorus' can be found under $200. Has anyone out there explored their potential for harp?
